The B1 segment of cars in India is a constant source of income for their respective manufacturers. While the market is going big on SUVs, these hatchbacks are still a popular choice among first time buyers with a decently large budget. They all offer roughly the same level of features and performance so we have decided to look at the kind of interior space that they offer and give you an idea of which is the most space among the three.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift is the segment leader in terms of volumes. The current car arrived here in 2018 to much fanfare at the Delhi Auto Expo. It’s based on the Heartect platform that had allowed it to grow over the previous generation model. The Grand i10 in this generation arrived here in 2014 with the most major update in 2017. Lastly, the Ford Figo too has been around since 2015 with the most major update for the car arriving earlier this year.
The wheelbase for the Maruti Suzuki Swift stands at 2450mm, making it the second largest car in the segment while the Figo tops the list at 2490mm with the Grand i10 standing at 2425mm. The legroom (max/min) for the driver and co-driver is 890/660mm. This, interestingly, is evenly matched by Ford Figo.
The Grand i10 comes is in a distant third with 850/650mm. Topping the list in terms of front headroom is the Grand i10 with 990mm while the Figo and Swift slot into second and third place with 980mm and 960mm.
Rear Cabin
In the rear department, the Swift has topped this list in terms of legroom with the measurements standing in at 890/660mm. Not too far away is the Hyundai Grand i10 with 870/620mm while the Figo is a distant third with 850mm/640mm. All three cars can take three adults in the back but with a lot of squeezing and is better suited to two people in the rear.
The Swift has a shoulder room of 1300mm with the Ford Figo coming in a really close second at 1290mm while the Grand i10, despite having the highest from headroom stands a distant third thanks to its rear shoulder room of 1180mm. In terms of rear backrest height, the Swift and Figo are evenly tied at 580mm while the Hyundai Grand i10 is only marginally off at 570mm.
Boot space
One of the most important criteria to determine the practicality in any car are the measurements of the boot. In terms of pure numbers, the Swift tops the list at 260-litre while the Grandi10 and Figo are evenly matched at 256-litre and 257-litre respectively.
We have also looked at loading lip height which to put plain and simple is the height of the boot lip from the ground a.k.a the amount of effort you have to put to hoist something off the ground and put it into the boot of the car. The Grand i10 and Figo are matched at 710mm while the Swift stands at 750mm.
