Maruti is considering sacking all the employees involved in the recent riots. It is believed that most of the participants were from the factory’s ‘A’ shift which had ended at 3pm, but the workers stayed back to hear what the outcome of the worker-management talks would be regarding the incident between the manager and junior worker that occurred earlier. The ‘B’ shift employees that were at work are what the management hopes will identify the main perpetrators and Maruti hopes to sack them. As with most incidents involving witnesses and the law in India, however, the company is finding it exceedingly difficult to identify the culprits, ostensibly because they were disguised.
In the meanwhile the Times of India has reported that a vaastu expert has been called in to get rid of the negative energy in the Manesar plant. Considering the amount of unrest there has been at the plant in the last year, we’re quite inclined to believe that as well. Maruti officially has nothing to say on the matter, though.
We’re not sure how long the investigation will take or when production will resume, but considering the recent launch of the Dzire in new markets like Oman, the longer the lockout continues, the more the damage to Suzuki’s reputation in new markets, which will have much more long-lasting effects than a riot.
