Maruti Celerio delivered to 28,000 owners

It has been close to four months since the Celerio was launched, the car went on to become a runaway success for the company. Maruti has now confirmed that it has delivered about 28,000 units of the car which is close to 7,000 units a month (counting the date of its launch). The total bookings for the car stands at 58,000 as confirmed by senior executive officer, Maruti Suzuki, Mayank Pareek. 

Commenting on the longer waiting period, Pareek said, the delay is not due to production constraints at Maruti but due to issues at the suppliers ends. The company will increase the production of the Celerio from 6,000 units per month to 7,000 units a month. This will bring down the waiting period, which at 7-8 months, is a tad too long

Pareek also said that the AMT variant contributes to about 50 per cent of Celerio’s sales. The company also recently launched a CNG variant of the car called the Celerio Green. 

Maruti needs to bring down the waiting period for the car and the 1,000 units increase in production will certainly help clear the order backlog faster. But, the company needs to source components faster, especially the AMT gearbox which is sourced from Magnetti Marelli of Italy.
