Mahindra XUV500 ‘Sportz’ special edition images leaked

It was revealed earlier this year that Mahindra was planning to introduce a special edition of the XUV500. Now, several images of this special edition, which will be called ‘Sportz’, have emerged. As expected, the XUV500 Sportz gets only cosmetic updates and will be tasked with keeping the model line-up fresh till a new XUV500 variant is launched.

 

The XUV500 Sportz is not a facelift and except for the extra graphics, the car is identical to the regular XUV500. The special edition gets ‘Sport’ decals on the side and mirrors, while extra graphics have been laid out on the hood, boot and the roof. The door handles get red accents and alloy wheels also get red reflectors. Inside, the XUV500 Sports gets new upholstery to match the red theme from the exterior.

 

The pictures seem to be taken inside a Mahindra facility, which indicates that the special edition cars are ready, and might be launched soon. Mahindra has many times relied on special editions like these to boost sales of its products.

 

All variants of the XUV500 are powered by an upgraded 2.2-litre mHawk engine found in the Xylo and the Scorpio. The engine churns out 140bhp and 330Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The all-wheel-drive option is available only in the W8 variant.

 

The XUV500 was launched in September and except for the addition of a new base W4 variant, the car hasn’t received any significant updates. The special edition will be the fifth variant in XUV500’s line-up and we expect it to be based on the top-end W8 variant. As a seven-seater, the XUV500 goes up against the Tata Aria, though in this price bracket, it also competes against other five-seaters like the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.
