Mahindra XUV100 spotted on test

Mahindra is currently busy expanding its modern range of utility vehicles. After the XUV500 and the recently launched TUV300, the Indian utility vehicle giant is now readying the XUV100. The XUV100 (codenamed S101) has been caught on test numerous times in the past and now this forthcoming model has been spotted on the old Mumbai-Pune highway.

We have already seen the XUV100 undisguised during its commercial shoot and what we understand so far is that it looks quite funky with its stylish tail lights, curved rear glass and multi-spoke alloys. Despite its compact footprint, the XUV100 comes across as fairly rugged, with its tiny rear overhang, subtle roof rails and plastic cladding. The car will also be the first Mahindra offering to come with unique vertical rear door handles seen previously in the Chevrolet Beat.

Underneath the new body shell, the XUV100 is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with around 75bhp and 110Nm of torque. Gearbox options are expected to include a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT. The diesel, on the other hand, will be the mHawk 80 unit from the TUV300 which develops 84bhp/230Nm.

The Mahindra XUV100 will go on sale early next year. When launched, it will target all big hatchbacks including the Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
