Mahindra has overtaken Tata Motors to grabs the sport of the third largest car maker in the country. The Utility car major sold 61,504 units in the first quarter of 2012-13, while Tata sales slipped 7 per cent to 60,405 units. Even in the month of June, M&M sales were higher at 19,259 units against 17,244 units of Tata. Demand for the SUVs and MUVs have bolstered Mahindra’s position in the market and in spite of ramping up production there is waiting period for majority of the Mahindra models.
Tata Motors have unfortunately continued to slip down the order. The company earlier lost its second position to Hyundai and now third to Mahindra. Tata Motors need to revamp their entire range, along with designs as majority of their vehicle brands are now associated only with taxis market.
Mahindra in the third position is still far behind Hyundai in second with sales of 30,450 units in June. The market leader, Maruti Suzuki, is in a different league with market share of over 42 per cent and sale of 83,531 units in June.
