A low-cost Nissan Micra hatchback has been spied testing outside Chennai by the team at Autocar. The test mule (codenamed G02A) that was snapped up had some areas covered in black tape, probably a hint of what has been revised to reduce the cost of the car and will most likely be called the Micra Active.
The low-cost variant is expected to get cheaper interiors, revised tail lamp design, and reduced insulation which will result in increased NVH but will keep the cost of the car down, localisation of steering system as well as removal of driver’s side airbag. All these changes are expected to cut the price of the car by up to Rs 60,000 from the existing XE petrol base model.
However, it is very likely that the Nissan Micra Active will only be offered with petrol engines and is this in most part due to the fact that diesel engine options for now are only available on the top-end XV variant.
Reports are also suggesting that the Japanese automaker is currently working on a facelift for the hatchback but there is no word on the development as yet.
