There was a report of Lexus landing few units of their mid-size luxury crossover SUV, RX450h on Indian shores last month. Now the same car has been spotted doing rounds on the streets of Delhi, with a temporary registration number on it.
Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus, is trying to establish themselves as a brand in India and have commenced the deliveries of the vehicle to the prospective customers ahead of an official launch next year. As predicted, the RX450h is speculated to cost around Rs 80-85 lakh in India. The car will be officially unveiled and launched at the end of November with deliveries initiating from December.
This isn’t the first time a Lexus car has made an appearance on the Indian shore. The mid-size SUV was spotted at a dealership just a few days back, while the mental RC-F coupe was also seen on the street earlier this month.
The hybrid powertrain of the RX450h is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 coupled to a parallel hybrid system comprising an AC motor along with a 1.9 kWh Nickel-Metal Hydride battery pack. It is mated to an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) with six stepped ratios which send the power to the front wheels. With a combined power output of 308bhp, the SUV boasts an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.33. The AWD variant is expected to come with the Indian version. It sends power to all four wheels via an eight-speed AT and torque on demand AWD system.
The Lexus brand will be sold from separate showrooms. Two of which will initially come up in Mumbai and Delhi. The RX450h is expected to compete with the likes of the BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Audi Q7.
