When Lamborghini ‘launched’ the Veneno (Italian for Venom) earlier this year, it was a watershed moment for the Italian supercarmaker. As many ogled over its outlandish and rather unhinged design, the obvious question popped up- when is the roadster going be launched? Well Lambo themselves have answered that by releasing pictures and details of the new Veneno Roadster.
Built to commemorate their 50th anniversary, the Veneno was their most outlandish and aerodynamically perfect car ever built. The Veneno Roadster is exactly like its hardtop venomous sibling but ups the madness quotient by eliminating the roof altogether as all you get is a strong roll over bar for protection. The company says that the design is focused on optimum aerodynamics and stability through fast corners - with handling akin to that of a racing prototype. Yet it is fully road legal, which in common man’s parlance means “as soon as you step on the accelerator, you will have to redefine your upper limit of being scared”.
Carbon fibre dominates the interior of the Veneno Roadster. The carbon fibre monocoque is visible inside the car, around the central tunnel and the sills. The two lightweight bucket seats are made from Lamborghini’s patented Forged Composite. The woven carbon-fibre Carbon Skin is used to clad the entire cockpit, part of the seats and the headliner.
It will be powered by the same 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 that produces 750bhp and will push the car to do 0-100kmph in 2.9 seconds! And then go on to hit a top speed of 355kmph. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a seven-speed ISR transmission. It is made entirely of carbon fibre and so despite a monstrous engine, it weighs just 1490kgs.
The hardtop Veneno had a limited production run of just three units all which were sold even before the world was made aware of its existence. This on the other will have a much more ‘modest’ production run of nine units and has been priced at 3.3 million Euros (Rs 27.72 crore).
