Lamborghini Huracán added to Italian police fleet

Lamborghini donated its latest hypercar, the Huracán, to the Italian State Police force recently. The car’s keys were handed over to Prefect Alessandro Pansa by the Lamborhini’s President and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, at the Museum of Historical Cars of the State Police in Rome, yesterday.

Officially dubbed the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Polizia, this new car is a specially-outfitted Huracán which boasts of many new features customised for the police. For instance, a video camera is mounted on the windscreen next to the rear-view mirror to record any suspicious or illegal activity. These videos are automatically tagged with the car’s GPS location, direction and speed. All this data is sent to a police station via a radio data transmission system.

Amongst the standard features on the Huracán, this vehicle also includes other police equipment like gun holsters, police radio gear and a paletta, a traditional stop sign used by Italian police to inform motorists to pull over.

Another interesting feature is a defibrillator on-board, as well as a refrigerated compartment, in the front trunk, to allow for the transport of organs. This means the Huracán Polizia will be called upon for medical emergencies too, apart from the regular police duties that it has to perform.

There are no changes to the engine or powertrain of the Huracán LP 610-4 Polizia. The lightweight car comes with a 5.2-litre V-10 engine under the hood producing 610 bhp of power and 560 Nm of torque.This power is sent to all four wheels by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

This is not the first time the Italian police will be using a Lamborghini. They were presented with Gallardos back in 2004 and again in 2008. Now this new Huracán Polizia will replace the two Gallardos that were previously a part of the police fleet.

The long-awaited and much-hyped Lamborghini Huracán premiered at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and within a couple of weeks after its unveiling, it was brought to India for customer previews. Lamborghini India might fulfill the demands of the uber-rich clientele in our country by launching the hypercar here by the end of this year.
