Jaguar Land Rover aim to up annual sales to one million

Jaguar Land Rover aims to increase its global yearly sales by over two fold by the end of the decade. Backed by the success of models like the Range Rover Evoque, 2012 JLR global figures stand at 3,57,773 units. The company has set an aspiring target of 7, 50,000 by the end of 2020 with one million being the eventual goal.

The numbers are not as high as other luxury automakers like BMW and Mercedes-Benz, but backed by Indian giant Tata, the British brand aims to invest further in improving its manufacturing and supply chain so as to meet the ambitious target. At a recent summit meeting in Canada Lindsay Duffield, president of Jaguar Land Rover Canada said "We could sell more volume in many markets, but our plants are running 24-7."

Over the last few years, JLR has added a number of models to its arsenal like the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Freelander 2, and aim to further improve its lineup with the revival of the X-Type to rival the BMW 3-Series, the Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Currently, China is JLR’s biggest market after recording a 71 per cent increase in sales in 2012 year on year. The company had signed a joint venture deal with Chinese car maker Chery in October last year to build a new production plant near Shanghai to meet the growing demand for its models in the Asian market.
