Infiniti may debut their first EV in China

Infiniti’s affinity for electric vehicles was showcased way back in 2012 at the Geneva and New York motor shows with the four-door electric LE and Emerg-e concept vehicles.

While the LE concept had a 134bhp electric motor that could make 325Nm of torque and came with a 24kWh lithium-ion battery, it was based on the original Nissan Leaf. In the same way, the Emerg-e was a 400bhp two-door sleek looking concept.

However, Infinity never really got going with EVs but that’s probably about to change as fresh reports now claim that the brand may be pushing forth with their electric vehicle plans. This is primarily due to the demand from the Chinese market which overtook the US market to become the world’s largest market for plug-in electric cars. “When I think about EV, we design it for China definitely,” said Infiniti President Roland Krueger in an interview.

Going by the statement, it sure looks like China would be the first market to get the Infiniti EV but there’s no confirmation yet about what will be offered initially, even though the car maker stressed that their EV will be on sale very soon.
