Volkswagen will launch the new Beetle in India in the next few weeks. The cars have already been imported to India as CBU and while we wait for the impending launch, the brochure with the details spec sheet of the new Beetle has been leaked online.
The new Volkswagen Beetle will use the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, tuned to produce 147bhp and 250Nm of torque. The power will be delivered to the front wheels via the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic DSG transmission with paddle shifters.
There will be only one variant of the new Beetle with all the features. The car will get bi-xenon headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, touch-screen display, dual zone climate control, panoramic glass roof, auto dimming ORVMs, leather upholstery and heated seats.
In its third generation, the Beetle is no longer the tiny car that it was at the time of launch in 1938. The hatchback has grown in proportions and is almost as long as C-Segment sedans sold in India. It still retains the retro design, which is its selling point. The VW Beetle competes with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1 Series in the entry-level luxury segment and is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs 30 lakh.
