Hyundai has unveiled the Genesis G90 – their new flagship sedan under their new luxury brand. To be known as the EQ900 in Korea, the large luxury sedan claims to be a range topper in terms of technology and features.
The Genesis G90 is a 5.2-metre sedan, smaller than the Mercedes S-Class, the benchmark of large luxury sedans. Designed under the leadership of Peter Schreyer, the chief design officer, the G90 gets the family crest-shaped grille with the winged emblem and swept back LED headlamps. The car has fairly straight bold lines running across the length of the long hood and the roof that slopes towards the boot.
The interiors are plush with leather upholstery and electrically adjustable seats for all four occupants and three-zone climate control. The rear passengers get individual display screen apart from the central TFT screen in the front. In terms of safety, it gets the autonomous emergency braking system, pedestrian detection and driver attention alert along with the standard ABS-EBD with ESP and airbags.
The G90 gets three petrol GDI engine options – the 3.3-litre 360PS V6, the 305hp 3.8-litre V6 and the 412hp 5.0-litre V8. The engines are mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission powering the rear wheels. A four-wheel-drive option can also be availed.
The Genesis G90 lies in between the Mercedes E-Class/BMW 5 Series cars and the Mercedes S-Class/ BMW 7 Series in terms of size with features almost matching the latter. Globally, though, they expect to price it close to the E-Class to make inroads into the market. Which also means, the Genesis G90, if it ever comes to India should be priced at about Rs 55 lakh.
