Hyundai reveals new Tucson with upgraded engines and new driver assists

Korean auto giant Hyundai has unveiled the updated Tucson at the ongoing New York Auto Show. The crossover now comes with refreshed design cues, updated engines and more advanced driver assistance systems. 

Upfront, there’s a different version of the cascading grille and new full LED headlights with an uplifted bumper design. The standard alloy wheel design is also new. At the back, Hyundai has changed the detailing of the taillights and redesigned the bumper.

The new Tucson is powered by two diesel and two petrol engines (specification differs by market). All of them are revised to reduce size, and to further improve CO2-emissions. The most powerful powertrain in this line-up is the 2-litre diesel engine with 186bhp which comes with four-wheel drive and can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission or optionally with the newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission. Alternatively, there’s the newly developed 1.6 diesel engines with two power outputs: the standard version puts out 115bhp and the higher power version offers 133bhp. Both engines are available with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel-drive. For the higher power version Hyundai offers a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and the choice of front- or four-wheel drive. 

In terms of updated driver assistance features, the Tucson gets Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW) and Speed Limit Indicator Function (SLIF). Furthermore, the car features Hyundai’s Surround View Monitor (SVM), which uses cameras to provide 360 degree vision during reversing. Following its global debut in New York, the new Tucson will make its debut in Europe a few weeks later.
