Geely has taken the wraps off the latest generation London Taxi. Dubbed the TX5, it retains the iconic 60-year-old design but has now been updated to meet modern standards. It was unveiled in the presence of the Chinese Premier Xi Jinping and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
At first glance, we can see the large vertically slatted grille and familiar round headlights which are now projector units. Further, the fog lamps get chrome bezels and are surrounded by grey coloured bumpers. Moving over to the side, we can see softly flared wheel arches and steel wheels. Only a single photo of the cab has been released so we have no idea (as yet) of what the rear of the car looks like.
The passenger section of the cabin gets space for six people who will sit on bench seats facing each other. It also has the capability to hold a wheelchair (facing forward), WiFi connectivity, a panoramic sunroof and a door that open rearwards for better access as well as to retain the iconic look.
The cab will go into production at a new facility in Antsy in Warwickshire next year and will hit the streets of London in 2017.
