Ford India announced on Tuesday 17th of July that they have successfully completed the expansion of their engine plant capacity up to 3, 40,000 per annum. The Ford Engine plant at Chennai has now become a regional small engine hub while manufacturing up to 17 different variants with 12 Duratec petrol engines and 5 Duratorq diesel engines. The new facility was set up in a record time of slightly more than 14 months and has the capability to manufacture 80,000 additional units of diesel engines. The 400,00th Engine was rolled out from the manufacturing unit in the presence of media delegates from various publications and broadcast channels.
The on going expansion has already led to the hiring of 200 employees, thereby leading to creation of employment opportunities as well. “ We are delighted to see this new addition to our existing capacities in the engine plant as we move up to the next stage of growth in India and the region”, said Michael Boneham.
The facility in Chennai is the first Ford Plant in the world to have single flexible production line manufacturing petrol and diesel engines. It is also the first plant to have run a flexible crank shaft production line for manufacturing crank shafts.
