Nico Rosberg took pole position for the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix. In the dying moments of Q3, the German driver was on his final flying lap but locked up his wheels at Mirabeau and was forced to divert into an escape road bringing out yellow flags. Lewis Hamilton in the sister Mercedes AMG was just a few car lengths and believed to be carrying much faster pace but was ultimately forced to slow down letting Nico take pole position. Rounding up the top three was Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull Renault beating his team mate Sebastian Vettel by one place once again.
The Ferrari duo Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonnen claimed fifth and sixth respectively and this was expected from them as they had been looking decently strong the whole afternoon. Jean Eric Vergne brought his Toro Rosso in seventh place ahead of Kevin Magnussen and team mate Danii Kvyat in the sister Toro Rosso. The Force India duo of Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg claimed 10th and 11th place for the Sunday grid.
All three sessions were marred with various incidents involving drivers from various teams and so we expect that if stewards hand out penalties then the latter half of the grid should see quite a shake up by tomorrow afternoon.
While we know with almost full certainty that it will be a Mercedes AMG driver getting the winner’s trophy from Prince Albert II after the race, we are just not sure which one and thanks to the incident from today’s Q3 among the Mercedes duo, it will be a race to watch!
