Renault has received over 10,000 orders for the Duster in less than one month. This is the first successful model from the French car maker and still has no direct competition in the Indian market. The pricing of sedan, tall driving position and economical diesel are the main reasons for the initial success of the Duster.
Renault dealers have confirmed that the Duster has a waiting period of four to five months, at this moment. However, it is expected to rise even further, unless Renault ramps up production capacity at its Chennai facility. However, Renault might stall this process for a while to gauge itself against two vehicles that are expected to be launched in this category soon, the mini Xylo and the Ford Eco Sport.
Speaking at the launch of the Duster, Marc Nassif, managing director of Renault India said that this year, the company was looking to sell a total number of vehicles which would be twenty times more than what it sold last year and the Duster was one of the five products as a part of its range.
The right-hand drive Duster, being produced at Chennai facility, will be exported to the UK and South Africa by the end of the year.
