BMW has issued a recall for some of their M3 and M4 coupes in the United States with a possible problem in the cars’ driveshaft.
BMW went ahead and added that they have identified a total of 42 potential units that could be affected. The M3s in question were built between May 30, 2015 and September 2, 2015; and the M4 coupes were produced from July 3, 2015 to September 11, 2015, while the M4 convertibles were manufactured from May 29, 2015 to August 4, 2015.
The manufacturer admitted that they might have not filled the affected cars’ driveshaft slip joint with grease. This would effectively mean that the component could potentially fail over time and if it did happen, the vehicles could lose power to the rear axle and stop moving, increasing the risk of a crash. No injuries have been reported as of now and BMW will begin the recall on January 8, 2016, when dealers will inspect the driveshaft and replace it if necessary, free of charge.
BMW recently issued another recall for the 5 Series in North America for child seat anchor repairs last month. The BMW M3 and M4 coupe are sold in India, however, no official release has been made by BMW India in this regard.
