BMW 3 Series GT to be launched in India by early 2014

BMW will launch the 3 Series GT in the Indian market by early 2014. The car will be sold in India through the completely-built-up (CBU) route and will later be assembled at their new assembly line in the Chennai facility. 

The 3 Series GT was unveiled this year at the Geneva Motor Show and is a larger and more practical version of the 3 Series sedan. It is 200mm longer, 81mm taller and thanks to the extended length has a 110mm longer wheelbase than the standard car. 

The 3 Series GT gets the same interiors as the standard car but looks much bigger due to its length. It is pretty much the same story with regards to the exterior, with the only major change being the design of the rear end.

It is very likely the car will be launched in two variants; 320d and the 330d. The former will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill while the latter gets a 3.0-litre straight-six engine. Both will make use of the ZF eight-speed automatic to send power to the rear wheels.

Talking about the price, expect the 3 Series GT to demand Rs 20 lakh premium over the standard 3 Series due to CBU imports and the launch is likely to happen at the 2014 Auto Expo.
