Audi TT spotted testing in India again

Import logs have revealed that Audi has imported several Audi TT and TT S Coupe sportscars to India for testing and now, one of these test mules has been spotted in Bangalore. Like in the previous instance, when another TT was spotted in Navi Mumbai, the test mule was completely uncamouflaged. It is unclear though, whether the mule was a regular model or the high-performance S model.

The 2015 Audi TT is based on the popular MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix) platform, which underpins many front-engined front-wheel-drive cars from the Volkswagen Group like Skoda Octavia, Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf and the Passat. The front of the car wears an aggressive look with LED headlamps, a chromed hexagonal front grille and massive air dams in bumpers. The rear features a bootlid spoiler, quad exhaust system and LED tail lamps.

The Audi TT will be offered with three engine options. The base variant gets a 2.0-litre, TDI diesel engine producing 184bhp and 380Nm of torque, and comes as a front-wheel-drive (FWD). The other two mills are enhanced versions of the tried and tested 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine. The base petrol will produce 230hp and 369Nm of torque and for enthusiasts, Audi will offer the Audi TT S Coupe with the 2.0-litre petrol unit churning out 310bhp and 380Nm of torque. Both the petrol variants will be available with FWD and six-speed manual or as an all-wheel-drive (AWD) with a six-speed dual clutch S-Tonic gearbox.

The third-generation sportscar was unveiled earlier this year at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and is expected to be launched here by the end of this year. Being a more premium model than the previous car, we expect a hike in the price for the new TT for the Indian market.

The increase in price will put the new TT squarely in the territory of more expensive two seater sportscars like the BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster and Mercedes-Benz SLK. But these Germans cars aren't just more powerful than the TT, they also are convertibles, which in itself will be a deciding factor for many buyers. But for someone who needs a two seater sports car without the bling of a convertible, the Audi TT will be the perfect car.
