Aston Martin to retain V12 engines, apprehensive about hybrid

Hybrid cars have been in the car market since the late 1990s and most automobile manufacturers have revealed their plans to produce their own versions based on green technology. However Aston Martin has no such plans yet and will prefer sticking to their V12 engines in the near future.

Aston Martin is known for luxury super cars and one of the very few who have continued to use the pure-breed V12 engine despite stringent emission and efficiency norms. Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin says they have increased the fuel efficiency by 30 per cent in a span of five years. Their way has been simple – make cars lighter with the use of aluminium and carbonfibre.

Where the hybrid cars are fuel-efficient with low emissions, they are also more complex and expensive. Mr. Bez is also a little apprehensive of electrical cars, as they still have reliability issues and Aston Martin prefers minimalistic engineering. Considering the V12 engine to be among their favourite ones, he commented, “If it comes to a luxury car with emotion, a V12 has something special. This will still be there within the next five to 10 years, but it does not mean it will be six litres ,  it can be five-litre or a smaller one. It will improve with power and fuel consumption.”

Showing concern about the rising emission norms and fuel economy standards he added, “I will exhaust any limits the regulations give me. We will meet all legislations standards to reduce CO2, but we will do this with higher efficiency.”
