2018 E-Class Coupe Spotted Testing

The Mercedes E-Class Coupe will feature a body-style similar to that of the S-Class Coupe. The 2018 version will be based on the MRA rear-wheel-drive modular architecture, just like the sedan version of the new generation E-Class.

It is evident from the spy shots, that the E-Class Coupe has size and proportions marginally bigger than the current generation. It follows the design philosophy of the new generation S-Class, which consists of prominent creases and sweptback headlamps. It also features door mounted mirrors, a low flowing roofline and the missing B-pillar similar to the CL models.

On the inside, the Coupe will share the interior of the Sedan, the details of which have just been revealed by Mercedes. It will have an optional 23 speakers system, two 12.3 inch screens merged into a wide display, touch control buttons that respond to finger swipes and customisable LED lighting.

The E-Class Coupe will use new inline six-cylinder engines, as well as four-cylinder turbo engines for both their petrol and diesel variants, similar to its sedan counterpart. These engines could power it up to 400bhp. For further performance, the E-Class Coupe will also receive AMG treatment in the future, it will be powered by the 4.0-litre V8 Engine. The E-Class Coupe will also have several hybrid options for both four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, for the environmentally concerned.

Adoption of the MRA platform also means that the E-Class Coupe will be available with 4Matic all-wheel drive, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

It will be positioned below the Mercedes-Benz CLS in India, and will mostly be a CBU. We can expect to see it first at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
