2016 Toyota Innova revealed through official images

Toyota has released official images of the 2016 Innova before its debut on November 23, in Indonesia. The MPV might be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in India.

The new images reveal the 2016 iteration of the Innova, which was still under wraps and is undergoing testing in our country for a long time. This model of the MPV is a completely new vehicle based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. It is also lighter than the one on sale in India. Though the silhouette is the same, the car gets a new design pattern for the alloy wheels.

The changes in the front include a two slat grille and  sweptback headlamps which are a ittle similar to the design language of the new Corolla. The headlights are projector units with the addition of DRLs and the fog lamps are also restyled. The changes at the back are also in line with the new design philosophy that include revised tail lamps and a new bumper.

The cabin now comes packed with features including power windows, automatic climate control, a new touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and aux-in. For the Indian market, we can expect a beige and black theme inside the cabin, with beige in the centre and on the doors as well. The twin-pod instrument cluster is new and so is the multi-function display, while there are steering-mounted controls as well. The top-of-the-line Z-variant will also boast of safety features like dual front, side and knee airbags, ABS, stability control and Hill-start assist.

For the Indonesian market, the new Innova will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. There is a 2.0-litre petrol mill that churns out 137bhp of power and 183Nm of torque. The old 2.5-litre diesel engine is now replaced by an all-new 2.4-litre diesel unit producing 147bhp and 360Nm of torque. Transmission options include a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The impending 2016 Toyota Innova launch will happen later this month in Indonesia, followed by its introduction in our country in early 2016. This is the next-gen Innova that is being updated after 10 years now. The new one is expected to continue to offer the reliability of the old one while offering additional features. It will continue to compete with the Renault Lodgy and the Mahindra Xylo in the premium MPV category segment in India.
