Drove almost all hatchbacks in the last 3 months for a testdrive before i decided to buy one for my dad.
my personal experience with the hatchbacks helped me to shortlist my choices to 1. Swift 2. Palio 3. fabia and 4. indica Vista
swift has all of it that one would need in a hatchback. a diesel variant with an awesome, globally acredited deisel engine (fiat Multijet/quadrajet/ddsi). the engine has been refined and used well by maruti with great noise reducing. i bet u cant figure out if its diesel form cabin for sure. the turbo wakes up at 2000 rpm accurately and u can experience raw power. in the city u can cruise and get 16kmpl.
the experience with drive is superb and so with the security of excellent after sales networ of maruti which is pan india.
its the best hatch in india. it anyday beats fabia on power, noise and aftersales. scores of blogs have mentioned the poor after sales of skoda. but not many write about the unrefined engine of fabia. the TDI from skoda is 3 cylinder and lacks the xing to throw the performance that the socalled Super hatch is expected to. although the "superb build quality" of fabia is really far ahead of its competition. but it fails to excite when u rev-up and take it for a spin.
so i fell Maruti suzuki has scored a Homerun with Swift which puts it miles ahead of the others with a hatchback which i believe is much more than a "value Pick"
