I bought the Swift VXI in Dec 2008. This is my first car and realy very excited about my car. The car is excellent in some of the aspects and satisfactory. However in few areas where this does not meet my benchmarks are , Low quality interior - very poor plastic used for dash board (gets scrached very easily) , Very low feul efficiency,less space at back side , however it is very early to say about feul efficiency as i have only clocked only 1500 kms. Lets hope for the best .

After getting the information through carwale.com, I booked the car SWIFT VDI AT Kalyani Motors, Bangalore in my wifes name. the test drive was exiting and the internal space is good. I was using Maruthi Omni earlier. this gave me a different experience. I still have a dilama in the choice of colours. we will decide today.
The price of the vehicle is quite reasonable. I wonder why the price of this vehicle has not come down. I feel the vehicle best suited for city drive. I thank carwale.com for giving required information.

I have driven Swift many times for over 2 years and each time it looks and behaves like its just out of showroom. It is very rare to find a product which has got the perfect blend of great design and performace!
Apart from design and performace, one other thing I like is the drivability - it is got the perfect driving position - you feel very comfortable at the drivers seat.
Plus one other thing - it looks great for whatever modifications you do on it. Thats why you find people doing all kinds of modifications they can think of. I can think of only one another car where the modifications looked perfect - the good old Zen.
Overall I would say it is the Perfect Car

Have a swift VXI since sept. 2008. Done 6000km till now. Done one long drive Bangalore-Goa and back. The car gives amazing comfort to the driver over long highway stretches and almost no driving fatigue. Engine is responsive even with the AC on.
City driving is also good with the engine good enough for overtaking over short stretches.
Only minus seems to the bumpy ride quality at low speeds. You can "feel" the road literally.
At highway speeds though the roughs are weathered pretty well.
Highway mileage - 15-17 km/liter with AC
City - 11-12 km/liter after 2 servicings

Looks
Well, there is nothing to write about it. Haven’t seen any other Indian car of its class that has better looks than Swift.
Interiors
It has the interiors of a sports car with black finish and silver rims. Though it looks good in a new car, I am very skeptical on the how well the interiors will suit in dusty Indian environment. I like Getz interior though.
Comfort and Practicality
what matters for a normal Indian is how comfort and usable the car is for daily usage and for short trips.
Storage space
What Swift lacks is the storage space found on many competitive models. Wagon R has tones of storage space in the dash board. Indica has thoughtful spaces for the driver.
Swift has a plain stylish dash. There is one glove compartment, not very big though. There is a utility space on the center console, good enough to hold mobile phones and wallet. As usual door pockets and seat pockets. What disappoints me more is the absence of under seat parcel tray. The European version of Swift has this and Indian version of Santro and Getz has this. For a car with very less utility space, under seat parcel tray could have helped at least to store some audio cassettes and CDs. Everyone owning a car would agree that Cassettes and CDs take up most of the space in the dashboard
Boot is also not so generous. I would say it is much similar to Indica. Wagon R has the class leading space in its category. Swift is definitely not in podium in this section
Comfort
Like any other Maruti cars, AC is excellent. The top end ZXi gets an automatic climate control and I was amazed with its performance. VXi and ZXi have tachometer, door open warning, light on warning, key inside warning and driver seatbelt warning. And best of all, VXi and ZXi has rear electric window (many small cars has only front power windows)
But the most important is the space to accommodate 5 passengers. Width of Suzuki swift is similar to Honda City (1690 mm). It can seat 3 passengers decently at the rear seat. The leg room is much better than other Maruti small cars. But Getz has marginally better leg room. Swift was designed to compete with Hyundai Getz and Honda Jazz (Hatch back variant of Honda City) in the European market and hence, seating comfort will be on par with its rivals.
Speakers provisions on doors
Maruti usually has 4 inch speaker provision in the front which means compromise on sound quality. And the rear speakers placement on small car is worst. Usual position is the rear parcel tray which means compromise on boot space. Swift has 6 inch speaker provision on all four doors which means no compromise to be made.
Driving Comfort
Maneuverability
An excellent Electronic power steering with precise control, good road visibility and good turning diameter of 9.4 m has made this car quite maneuverable in the city traffic. The visibility in the rear while taking reverse is not the best in class but still good enough
Power
87 bhp of 1.3L engine is only just sufficient for heavy car like swift. The car is quite heavy and power train is very smooth. Swift is faster than any other small cars with exception of fiat palio 1.6 and corsa sail 1.6. When compared to sedans in similar price range, esteem outperforms swift in acceleration.
Swift has a very flat torque curve which means very less gear shift in city driving. I drove Swift in 3rd gear for speed as low as 15-18 kmph and still the vehicle has sufficient torque to accelerate to 80kmph with out much strain. Only other Maruti vehicle that has such a torque curve is Baleno
Suspensions
Best of Maruti. The suspensions have been tuned for handling and hence little compromise in Ride. Though the rear does not have independent suspension, the overall characteristics are very good. What makes Swift better is the 14inch tyres. All the other compact cars and many sedans like Indigo, Esteem comes with a 13inch tyre. Bigger tyres will do well in avoiding pot holes on Indian road
Fuel efficiency
I cannot comment on this right now. But as per Road test in Overdrive June 2005, the fuel efficiency in City is 12kmpl and in highways 17kmpl both with AC
Safety
The best thing I like about this car is the safety features. Safety features are mostly overlooked in India. But those rare occasions where safety features comes handy might change your life forever. At speeds greater than 60kmph, your safety depends on the other drivers on the road, no matter how good you are.
Built with thick steel, the car looks solid and strong. The only other car which gives me this impression is Skoda Octavia. The car weighs 980 kg (LXi) comparable to Indica and Getz. But Swift engine is All Aluminum (very light when compared to its rivals). This means, most of the kerb weight is contributed by the chassis and the body
ZXi model comes with dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, seat belt pre-tentioners, wider tyres apart from standard features as rear seat belts, side impact beams, etc
ABS and EBD
Most cars are designed for driving on Tarmac. But unfortunately, most Indian roads are very dirty that the tyres do not touch the tarmac directly. During sudden braking, the wheels stop rolling but the car continuous to slide without stopping. ABS with EBD will solve this problem by not allowing the wheels to lock prematurely and hence, stopping the car as expected by the driver. A car with good power train and excellent braking translates to confidence while driving

I own a maruti suzuki swift VDI car. Though this is a small car, it has facilities and features matching the luxury cars. It is very powerful, smooth and economical.
The car can move just by releasing clutch even at third gear. Turning is effortless. Breaking system is powerful and immediately responsive. While starting it is little bit noisy but there is no noise while running.
Though the car does not take too much of parking/road space its interior is quite spatious. Similarly the contents inside the bonnet is arranged in the most beautiful manner. Space management is marvellous in the Maruti swift cars.

Its been a year since i bought my Swift VXi. I have kept it in its stock version without any modifications whatsoever. The Swift is a great family car. It will do your shopping rounds with ease, great to drive in city, brilliant on the highway. If you are switching from a small ar like Alto to a Swift you might take some time getting used to the sheer bulky design of the Swift.
You can pamper yourself with tons of equipment which comes with the Swift which makes you feel like being in a vehicle like a big sedan. The performance figures of the Swift speak for themselves, and are the best in its class, even giving bigger cars like Ford Fiesta 1.4 duraTorq a run for its money. 0-100 takes 13.8 seconds. I manage to get a very good mileage figure of 14 kpl with a mix of city and highway driving.
There is a slight problem with the rear visibility. The rear window is high mounted and gives you a very poor visibility during night. The reversing manouvre might be a tad difficult for novice drivers. But you can work around by using the three mirrors wisely. Swift is great on highways too, i did a trip from Bangalore to Trivandrum and back and Swift didnt even break a sweat. Overall a great car to own and this may well be the beginning of the era of Hot-Hatches in India.

I bought the Vxi petrol version in Aug 2006 and it has been a joy owning and driving it as much as my entire family does.
I had taken the car from Ramagundam in Andhra Pradesh to Allahabad with only one stop at Jabalpur for the night. I would cover the distance of about 650 Kms non stop except for a short break of 30 mts for lunch in 10 hrs. There was no sign of fatigue in me for I was driving the car all along and so with the my family which included an infant 6 months young. In all I covered a distance of about 1150 Kms without any problem.
Again I had taken the car from Ramagundam to Bangalore. I could cover a distance of 1100 Kms with ease and again with my family. Till now I have not done ay repairs on my car except for the regular servicing and maintenance. On the whole I am happy that I decided to buy and own this marvelous machine.

i being from defence, was advised to go for a petrol car because i was expected not to drive more than 5000 to 8000km per year rather than what a business class person is expected -20000-30000 km per year. to my and my dealer's surprise i covered 10000 kms within three months of the purchase of my car. this car is irresistable. i took it to the hill tracks of garhwal and himanchal, zipped 150kmph on highways and got the mileage of 22-24kmpl with ac on..
now just imagine a deisel car, i call her "cutie"...with such exceptional feaures like good style, high fuel economy, excellent pick up etc..all these speak everything. this is my first car, i polished my driving skills on this car and mind yu this car is very safe and forgiving.
i have been to dharamshala, delhoussie mussorrie and many other places in my car. my fiancee was overwelhemed to see our new car, infact our first possession. my fiancee doesnt say with me, i took my car to here house at 1:30 am in the chilling winter nights. she bunked and came along with me in our dream car. she didnt bunk at late night for me, she did it for our dream car, to see it, to take a drive in it. that was our most memorable drive and the moment that we will cherish together throught our lives. thankyou "cutie"
