Driving around in the car for last 7 days...
Exterior Except the front look, I found the car looks beautiful from all sides and angles. The shape, size and proportions are great. Maybe MS should look at this and improvise. They can sit with some good designers and see what can be done. The quarter glass in front helps in improving vision on curves. They should have provided stylish door gaurd strips (body colour) to enchance the looks.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The dash board is good and sufficent for displaying all information. Upholstery is wow. Passenger comfort is also wow with proper adjustment of seats. Boot space is yes, less as one would have desired. As per the dimensions, space utilisation is fantastic. The middle row blower is great for cooling the last seat as well as the 2nd row, also since the control of blower is independent of front seat blower, it helps.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is very good , quite and efficient.Tried only city driving till now, but touches 80-90 easily and fast. In traffic and slow speeds, you need to downchange gears on braking, pikup is good so helps in moving quickly back to earlier speed. Gear shift is easy and good. Steering is very light. Fuel economy: metre says 11.0 KMPL in diesel but my calculation says it is higher than that.
Ride Quality & Handling Excellent on plain road. In potholes/uneven road the body roll is more, you need to get adjusted to that (Maybe due to new shockabs??). Speed breakers are handled very well. Less fatigue in driving.
Final Words A very good vehicle from Maruti and also well designed from Interior and Exterior point of view. First time I liked a car from MS & Bought it. If MS is thinking like this, I can expect more and better designed cars in near future.

Exterior New trendy look, very similar to Ritz, a simple family utility car, can easily accomadate 7 adults as the 2nd rows can be slided, having adequate ground clearance which is greater than innova is an added advantage when the VAN is full.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Clocked a milege of 15kmpl, as my car is new n ran only 650kms, so cant tell you the exact figures. Good power for a race you have to travel in light loads, but it can take you almost as a swift can take you, I felt the gearbox is a bit stiff, mayb due to freshness.
Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is awesome u feel u r riding as SUV , handling is just like a car.
Final Words If dont want d brand name of toyota n innova, u can go for ertiga, you wont feel pity on your choice, its far better. Best car for a family of 7-8 :).
Areas of improvement Zxi is priced too high than vxi ( same wid disel ) with not much difference in features, enrty to 3rd row can be made a bit more spacy by making the 2nd row sliding n foldable as in innova. The arm rest coushion can be made softer the joint is stiff n it may cause then center seated person to ache his back in a long run.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very Nice.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Very nice and it is great to drive. Very powerful AC but sound can be imroved. It is a pure family car and worth buying and the best part is Maruti> Service cetre is widely available. good car good grip and a value for money.car from inside has a style and fresh feel you have when you ride. The bottle stand beside the front AC is small and that is not standard bottle size. Rest is very nice and i should say if you have a car for your family to enjoy with low budget you should go for this and it is wonderful.
Ride Quality & Handling Fantastic. Vewry smooth and holds the road while driving.
Final Words It is a pure family car not a style car.
Areas of improvement Front look. and sound quality. Create a difference where no one can provide or think to provide in this range. small thing but high and impactful.

Exterior Cute and Decent look.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) People often compare with Innova. Before comparing one should understand that you are trying to compare apples and oranges. The engine in Ertiga is 1248 CC whereas in Innova it is 2500 CC which is simply double. Also there is a huge difference in terms of cost. By this it is very clearly evident that Ertiga is intended for the average middle class family who instead of going for a Sedan will go for MUV where you have the benefit of using the 3rd row as seat if needed or as a boot if not needed.
Innova's average mileage in the city is 10 KMPL whereas Eritga's average is 18 KMPL. So for much lesser price, with more mileage and cheap maintenance (at the end of the day it is maruti and swift engine) what more we require for a average indian middle class. This is the point why people are attracted to Ertiga. It is no doubt that Innova is an excellent car with no match against it. But for a average middle class who wants a car with more space and flexibility Innova will be too much. Instead of buying a sedan like Scala or Sunny, we are getting an MUV which is built on top of most successfull and reliable Swift Engine.
Also there were lot of apprehensions about the load pulling, power etc but I personally drove the vehicle with 7 adults and 2 kids for around 300+ kms and I felt that it is an absolute comfortable car with no complaints at all. With 2 AC's ON I could get an average of 18 KMPL and the driving is just like a extended car. What more you need?
Final Words It is just an extended car built on top of Swift Engine with cheap maintenance and good mileage. A true value for Money.

Exterior The exterior is decent, should appeal to everyone. Front end is better than the rear. The rear is little bland because of the ordinary tail lamp design. But overall, from the sides it looks great and you cant make out that it is vehicle which can accomodate 7-8 people from the front. I liked the alloy wheels, though the older alloys on SX4 would have been better.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The fit and finish of the interiors is good considering the price. There is ample amount of space if the seating is adjusted intelligently and it can easily accomodate 7 - 8 adults who are reasonably built. All those people who complain of third row space speak without really experiencing the vehicle for long time are really not correct. Surely you can ask for the best leg room for all seats but not at this price point. Even innova does not have great leg room in the third row considering that it is easily a bigger vehicle in all the three dimensions. The beauty of this vehicle is the intelligent management of space which allows a wheel base which is just 10 mm less than innova and >6 lakhs lower price point. Yes, when the third row is folded fully, the leg room in the second row is slightly reduced (if the head rest of third row is removed it would help). Fabric color, interior colors, dashboard is great, i think enough has been written in reviews and i dont think i can add anything new.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The engine is quite smooth and the NVH is very low thanks to good sound deadening material used especially considering how close the front of the car is to the engine. The pick is ok with turbo lag till the rpm reaches 2000, but is still manageable considering that i drive in the bumper to bumper traffick of Bangalore. I have noted a FE of 12 - 14 Kms in the city and 17 - 19 Kms on the high way after completing nearly 8000 kms. The FE has improved from the initial days and assume it would improve further after 10000kms. The dashboard Avg mileage information however is vague, probably captures the best mileage recorded till then, not sure how it works as it never correlates with the full tank to full tank calculations. Gearbox is surely better than some of the older maruti vehicles (eg my old swift 2005 VXI) but can be improved when it is compared to other competitors in this price point, including sedans.
Ride Quality & Handling I really love the high seating position, and the great ground clearance. Till now i can remember only once the chasis touching a monstrous road hump, slightly stiff suspension and the ground clearance have been really the saviours. They have really prevented multiple daily heart aches which would surely happen with a honda city or honda civic or hyundai cars with soft suspension and low ground clearance. I dont find any difficulty in manovering the vehicle considering that i graduated from a small hatch (swift) to this vehicle. The road grip is good even in high speeds over 100 and the body roll is not bad either when compared to other SUVs/ MUVs.
Final Words Great car to own and drive, suitable for both regular office commute and weekend getaways. The price of this car is a real killer of competition and the reliable Maruti service and time tested engine are the icing on the cake. I booked the car on the day of its launch without even a test drive and dont regret my decision till date. Surely loved the attention on the road during the initial months of ownership when people used to ogle, tap on the window and ask typical Indian phrase 'mileage yeshtu' (what's the mileage in Kannada).
Areas of improvement Driver seat arm rest can be easily provided in the current space and the wheel size could be increased to 16 inch. Roof rails for luggage also should be standard for all the models. Some improvement on the pick up and reduction in turbo lag would be great but considering the size of the engine it is fine, hope if they can get the 1.6 litre diseal it would change. Bluetooth with steering mounted call control can be great addition to this already good vehicle. The rear view camera and reverse parking sensors can also be a standard feature for top end atleast.

Areas of improvement 1. 3rd can split to two, 2 Built in climate control 3. factory fitted reverse camera. Immediate after delivery of two days, I driven from bangalore to home town Goa, via karwar, sirsi wih family (we 2+2sons 16 &13 yr old). In local areas had trips with parents, In-laws and visited various temples & beaches. Some time 3 row loaded with 3 seats. Being petrol vehical no difference felt with dual AC & total 8 passengers absolutly no effect in pickup/fulling. Due to restiction of speed with great diffculty drow upto 65 speed with total km 1900 in my first trip. After 1st service, further became smooth.
Overall I felt my choice of Petrol version Ertiga ZXi is my right choice.

Exterior From side angle it looks like younger sister of Innova. But as you turn around, everything is very much Maruti. Many people asked me is it an imported car? It is definitely head turner. It can be your next home in terms of accommodating people.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) A value for money car. In a single sentence, it is a gem of cars. Buy this if you want have ultimate comfort, ride quality and happy hi way drives.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is bit lethargic in city driving. It cruises like a rocket on the hi ways.
Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is better than Innova. It is so good, after few minutes many of the car occupants will fall asleep.
Final Words Another winner in the form of Ertiga for team maruti.
Areas of improvement Boot space needs to be increased. Beige interiors get dirty within no time. Maruti should include luggage carrier as an option for one of the variant.

Exterior It's a MPV so don't expect it to look as good as BMW but its definitely different forms its bulky looking competition.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Maruti have tried to fit in everything needed within the length they had . nice touch on the USB ( iPod , iPhone compatible ) . Decent music . BUT lousy beige fabric interiors . For a family car with kids in India stains with a week of purchase . So I fitted look alike leather all over the fabriforest.
Big flaw is the third row design. It flips forward and rest against the 2nd row unlike other cars like the innova where the seats spilt and fold to the side. To get full boot space you need to push the middle seat right forward killing the leg room.Maruti should redesign this and maybe offer it as a option current owners.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Is adequate but the turbo kicks in only after about 2000 rpm and the power input is Not smooth . Needs to be tweaked to about 1800 rpm . Mileage is great at avg of 12.5 in Mumbai.
Ride Quality & Handling Decent.
Final Words Good buy for 10 lacs and great alternative for people with small kids who want a SUV /MPV but think the innova is overpriced or the mahindra/ tatas are bulky etc.
Areas of improvement Third row needs a rethink and turbo charge power delivery.

10th July 2013 I have brought a new Maruti Ertiga ZXI from Pratham Motors, Bangalore. Immediately after the delivery I found that malfunction indicator sign is on, also found lot of vibration during idle. I returned back the vehicle, till now (1st Aug 2013) they are neither corrected the problem nor they provided me a new vehicle. Maruti is testing their vehicle with my cost from the past 22 days!!
When I was following up with Maruti, Mr. S.Purushothaman, TSM-Bangalore (9663XXXXXX) called me and told the vibration is common in Ertiga. When I asked him why the similar vibration is not there in other Ertiga, he was telling every car is different! If every car is different I am not sure why Maruti is selling all Ertiga cars at the same price?
My recommendation is, try not to buy Ertiga, if you still want to buy before buying Ertiga be very cautious, before registering the car in your name please do a round of test drive. Maruti has no clue on how to fix the problem. Otherwise Maruti will register the defective car in your name and test their product with your money.
I feel I wasted 9, 00, 000/- for this, very disappointed with Maruti’s response. My compliant number is CRM:08960XXXXXXXX / Complaint Reference No. 3504XXXXXX.

Looks like a oversized car. Oversized car is what it is rather than truck (innova and others in this category). Head lights are great, standard indicator lamps on side mirrors is very good. Grill on the front makes it look strong car.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Front rows are very comfortable in ZXI model, in VXI, there is no center arm rest and after market arm rest is recommended to fill this deficiency. Second row seating is the best, recliner as well as slider makes it so comfortable for long journeys. Third row is apt for mid size people. For taller people, middle row needs to be carefully adjusted to ensure everyone gets sufficient legroom. For long journeys, it will be good to install carrier.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
Gearbox is very smooth , engine has low noise and low road noise. Fuel economy for this sized car is great.
Ride Quality & Handling
Handling was surprisingly very nice. This is due to cross over frame rather than chasis and body styling. Handles turns like car, you won't feel that you are driving 7 seater. Innova on the other hand is big MUV but handles like truck, you get pushed around and turning around corners makes you cringe at high speeds - not in ertiga.
Final Words
Well made car, handles great , right sized car. Its a winner. With price point of 9 lakh, you get value for money.
Enjoyed every moment after purchasing the car.
Areas of improvement
Engine needs to be more powerful than current 95 bhp. Auto transmission should be offered on this vehicle.
