Xylo made entry into Indian market when the MUV market was dominated by Toyota Innova and Chevrolet Tavera. The Xylo can be stretched easily to the speed at which it goes as fast as it possibly can.
Mahindra has made this car after a lot of research and testing not just in India but also Sweden, Australia and South Africa and that is why they have come up with a good product. It is product for world success.
Xylo as Mahindra’s vehicle is all new and nothing is shared with Scorpio. Yet when you sit behind the wheel in a xylo, it will remind you of a Scorpio. Everything has a very weighty feel; the steering is a little heavy, you need a little effort to shift the gears. But otherwise it feels better than a Scorpio. The wheelbase is longer, the track is wider. It has better stability, better handling and feels more planted especially over bad roads. It has better ride quality too. It feels overall like a better Scorpio and that is a very good thing.
The engine is mEagle but it is the same CRDe engine from the Scorpio. It is a 2.5ltr Common Rail Diesel that makes 112 bhp and 240 Nm of torque. The more powerful mHawk engine would have been preferred because it is crucially 80 Kgs lighter than mEagle. But for most applications, this torqy engine suffices.
The best part of the Xylo is that it doesn’t have leaf spring suspension at the back. It has coil spring suspension that not only gives better ride quality, it also improves handling. Mahindra is not known for making great handling cars and the Xylo is no better, but it is stable, it is fast and it doesn’t do anything funny. And that is the most important thing in a MUV like Xylo.
Looks wise it does take a little long to digest. It is like a cross between Scorpio and an Innova. It is like a generic MPV. But it does have curves and impressive road presence because of its size.
The interiors have been paid a huge amount of attention. The quality of the materials used is quite good. It has a multi function display that has a series of information including a compass, a barometer, it also gives you range, tripper meter details and speed. It also gives distance your car will travel in the remaining fuel.
The two tone upholstery is good in black and silver. There is chocolate also but that is a grade less in terms of look and feel. There is attention for details like even the key Control is colour-coded.
Like Mahindra says, the car has been designed inside out. That makes it a very comfortable car. The second row captain seats are extremely comfortable. Even at the back, three people can travel comfortably.
The xylo is a good drive and there is no question about it but its biggest trump card is its brilliant pricing. The base version that gets a power steering, power windows, Central locking and air conditioning is 6.2 lakhs or something. Fully loaded may go upto eight lakhs or something. This is fabulous valu e for money. Especially when compared to the Innova whose, base version costs almost a lakh and a half more.
Mahdra has done a very fabulous job with Xylo. When Mahindra first brought out Scorpio, it was a little scary in terms of handling and stability. But Mahindra learned from their mistakes and over the years Scorpio has now become one of the fuinest SUV’s. With Xylo, Mahindra has made no mistakes.
The only limitation can be styling.
great handling and brilliant pricingstyling
