An Open letter to Mr. Anand Mahindra ( CMD Mahindra)
Dear Mr. Anand,
I have waited to write this letter for close to two years and completing 50000 km on your most favorite car XUV 500. Mr. Anand, You have let me down completely after being loyal customers to ur company for decades.
I was born to a Mahindra loyal family –Jeep(KLD 9535) in 1969 and my Dad upgrade it to a International and then MM540. Even my first 4 wheeler was MM 540 and I have upgraded to a scorpio and finally to XUV 500.
Before getting to my nightmares, let me appreciate for ur Look and Style, Comfort, Pickup good,
Mileage, good Features & design. But u have screwed up the quality of the componets totally.
Now Let me drive u through 2 years of hell!!
1. First at 6000 km, the music console got conked off, of course they replaced it quickly.
2. Power steering went out of gear at mysore, they say fluid leak, it took 2 hrs for the pick u truck to arrive and 4 days to get the Xuv back home at Bangalore.
3. V were all set for the Diwali holidays to Wayanad, another deep purple song “smoke on the bonnet, clutch on the sky” , next beak down clutch gone for a six, no stock at service center, delivery... after1 week.
4. Break is expected to get in to same boat again, expecting total recall by jan 2012, told by company representative.
5. Music console again got screwd, stopped working again 6 months after first replacement, on 8.12.12,( 30000km) i was directed by the service person meet a mechanic at koramanagala bangalore. He did some soldering work for almost 2 hrs, showed me how fantastically its working. But it lasted only for one day !!!! again back to pavilion. Reported the complaint, but mahindra has no system of recording. finally got the entire unit replaced.
6. The prediction came true. The next in the line was -break pad , given it to service station, they have replaced with the ver 2.0, as per them one more version is come already ver 3.0 not available with them so I had to get satisfied with of break pad ver 2.0 to add as per the service center they have also replaced the bushes since it was totally worn out.
7. Another outstation trip back home in the RAINY night 8.2.13, viper refused to move. I had to get back home with ancient system - tubaco leaf cleaning.( got it replaced after one whole day- as per the service center the electric system connected with the viper was also not working, any way they fixed it FREE of cost ( Mr. Anand Mahindra- where is the time value??).
8. Another trip to Wayanad, middle of the Jungle, break drum started making lot of noise, Also some noise from near the shocks (around 40000 km).
9. Again music console conked off for the 3rd time. Service center, claimed they replaced. 45000 km.
10. Another trip to my estates 2 days after 50000 km routine service, on my way back Clutch conked off Again before 50k to Bangalore.

Exterior Great paint work. Decent body styling. Below average platics on skirting, tail light panels. Too much of glass on headlamps and tail light clusters. Bound to hit your wallet if you have a bang.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Excellent dash console loaded with goodies. Poor quality of plastics. Suspect will rattle once you clock in over 3,000 km. Finish of the fake woodwork is too cheap. Seatring space in drivers console is great. Rear first row has the best seating profile and leg room of all SUVs in the market. Would have prefered a rail on the mounting so seats could be slid and leg room adjusted.Third row seats are just showpieces. Zilch leg room. Can put children upto 4 years only on these seats.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Standard mHawk 2,2l engine with some tweaking. Expected a better power train for the price. Fuel economy yet to be proven. Smooth gearbox except for 2nd gear.
Ride Quality & Handling Smooth ride, but has slight side roll particularly when turning.
Final Words A commednable improvement on the Scorpio. But when you take in the pricing, the WOW factor diminishes.
Areas of improvement Considerable.

Exterior Amamzing exterior but no one buys cars just for exterior looks
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Just giving features is not enough, they should be atleast be useful, space is Ok when 4 to 5 passengers are travelling and last seats can used to keep luggage. If the count goes beyond 5, luggage will be a problem.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance, fuel economy is great but 1st and 2nd gear shift is as if we are driving a truck.
Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality and handling is good
Final Words Mahindra is not capable of launching an International brand. Mine was the 1st Red XUV in Delhi NCR. I have visited Koncept Automobiles at least 21 times and till date these people are not able to rectify problems like ABS, Cruise Control, brakes.
Every time you drive 300 to 400 kms ABS malfuction light glows and even after my XUV being inspected by team from Chakan plant it has not been rectified.
Cruise control is again a pain. It stops working abruptly and will only work again unless you restart the engine
Brakes are as if there are drum brakes on all four wheels because they are too slow in response
Areas of improvement Mahindra should learn that though looks do matter but technology matters most.

Exterior Good exteriors.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good interiors, only that it is meant for 5 people including luggage, for 7 people there is no luggage space.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Good, get about 10.8km/lrr in city and about 12km/ltr out of city, the gear shift are heavy and not very smooth.
Ride Quality & Handling Very bad, the vehicle drags to the left and tugs when accelerated.
Final Words As soon as on purchasing the vehicle model and on using the same, I observed certain strange performance of the subject vehicle model. The first malfunctioning is that whenever, the vehicle is subjected to a fixed speed cruise without any intermittent interference, it automatically drags the vehicle to the left as if there is an uneven motion excess in the left side. The second serious malfunction is that while accelerating the vehicle the steering tugs from side to side as if a third force is controlling the steering. Then the third serious malfunction is that shifting of gears is hard and heavy at most of the times rather than smooth. This serious malfunction of the vehicle has taken a heavy toll on the health of the person, who drives the subject vehicle model. As a result, I was subjected to undergo stiffness and pain in the neck as well in the biceps muscles whenever, I am on the wheel. The above said main defects were brought to the knowledge of your service engineers attached to the dealer on the 1st referred date. The service engineers on taking note of the problems undertook to rectify the same at ease. Thereafter, I took delivery of the vehicle with a fond hope that the complained malfunctions were rectified satisfactorily. When the vehicle was put to use, there again the vehicle developed the same problems. It is made clear that the problems were not got rectified by your service engineers. As a result the same was brought to the notice of your engineers during the 2ndreferred date and subsequently on 3rd and 4th referred dates. But to the dismay and astonishment, your service engineers could not able to cull out the reason for the malfunctions and as a result the said problems could not be fixed. It is not out of place to mention that during the subject referred 4thcomplaint inorder to appease me your esteemed executive gave a free holiday stay at Club Mahindra for 3 days at Coorg. I thought it fit to take up the endowed holiday trip so that the vehicle could be put to test and the event would test the vehicle for its performance. The same was a disaster to me as I left Chennai on 16.09.2012 in the early morning and I had entered the highway the vehicle kept on dragging to the left the steering had become so tight. These reported problems made the driving a nightmare as pain cropped in my bicep muscles and neck and as a result after driving for about 125kms, I was forced to abandon the trip midway and returned home.
Areas of improvement Handling of the vehicle has to be improved, gear and clutch cable to be rectified.

if anyone want to buy any mahindra car go to Gurgaon dealer. I just bouthg AUX 500 and koncept dealers people cheated and treated me poorly. I have complaint against them and waiting for their response. The Manager Manish there is very poor person to work with. I was working with them to buy XUV, the representative working me went on off and then I was given Manish number to work him.. as the sale was already file in name of earlier representative, hence he never talked to me and also I called him multiple time he never picked the phone. Hence I was never told the car will get expensive in another week and I was never informed. when I want to book the car, Manish treated as if I am coming in charity... mentioned either you buy on increased rate or you can go. further when car was delivered to me, it was not cleaned.. i took it again to them after couple of days.. they still never got it washed. Car is awesome only because Mahindra manufactured it.. the koncept mahindra guys are spoiling the company name. I have to beg (manish specificaly) them for discount and then asked to buy accessories and then they can give me some discount. I am disappinted.. would recomment not anyone else to go there. My friend bought it from Gurgaon and he is very happy and bought it with discounted price and not increased. Thanks

Please donot reduce ground clearence to 160mm. nobody will prefer to buy for Indian road.
Areas of improvement
Take back your decision of reducing Gnd.Clearence.you are going to stop everybody's dream. i say forget Northern,Eastern and North-East India even other parts of Indian road will not support for Gnd.Cl. of 160mm. You may keep gnd cl. of 180-190mm. let the price be reduced to somewhere rs.15000 to 20000 and adjust the clearance based on this. so much of low clearance is good for Sedan but not for C/D segment SUV vehicle. As I have noted it in the paper and internet i would like to ask M&M please tell me on what basis you are going to reduce the clearance? is it only to reduce cost or due to some technical issues, because in doing so you may be mitaken which is not exactly known to you right now but may appear in the near future.

Exterior Awesome eyecatching exteriors. No Doubts in that .
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors are plush and looks good than any other competitor. No complains of plastic used in car. I love the interiors.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Very Powerful Engine. 11.5 kmpl economy i am getting in the city driving. Highway it is around 12.5 - 13km depending upon driving.
Ride Quality & Handling Good Ride quality. Suspension could have been better. Duster's supension was very good as compared to XUV. I took testdrive of all similar cars (Duster,Ecosport) before buying the XUV 500 and trust me there is no match for the XUV 500. The power you feel behind the steering wheel in XUV is awesome. The noise isolation inside the cabin is also too good.
Final Words If you are buying a SUV , It has to be a Mahindra XUV 500.
They have taken care of very minute things in the XUV. Very happy customer of Mahindra.
Customer Care is also very good. Plus i am getting a satisfaction of buying a INDIAN product.
Recently I also saw the XUV 500 W4 but it is lacking everything for which the XUV has to be bought. They just rolled out the lowerpriced version but the CUT of the features and the interiors is too much and there is no reason buying a XUV W4. Better go for atleast W6 or if you've got some more cash then W8.
I am a software engineer by profession and i use it for going to office. Occasional long drives.
It is made for long drives. sXUV 500 is a vehichle you won't regret buying. Very good job Mahindra.

Exterior I have no complaints about the exterior of the vehicle.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interiors provided in the vehicle are really well thought but there is a real need to think about the quality of material. like plastics & the push buttons. Most importantly there is some use of JUGAAD technology in adjustment of driver seat. which they need to convert to a motorised device.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is extremely noisy. pick up in 1st & 2nd gear is extremely pathetic. There is a constant engine knocking sound which is totally irritating. Gearbox is not of a great class. I mean its ok.
Ride Quality & Handling I would rate quality of vehicle as so so, perticularly the ENGINE.
Final Words Over all I would rate this vehicle at say 6 on 10.
Areas of improvement M&M has done a good job on design (interior & Exterior) but quality of material used in interiors. Engine quality needs massive improvement.
People quote this vehicle as "Value for Money..." I would say people are compromising on many aspect by quoting this. Value for Money is much more if it is really hard earned.

I bought the Car and its really Eye catching.. I was using Scorpio Since 3 years..This is Great looking SUV but if you start using it,its performance and running comfort is equal to Scorpio.. As far as comfort level is concern,its disappointing..Its equal to Scorpio.If the person habitual with Scorpio,seat in it and drive with closed eyes or simply seat on any seat,he will surely feel that he is sitting in Scorpio.. So if some one want comfort like INNOVA,ARIA, dont go for XUV-500.
There is scope of improvement in Suspension.They have tried to givr good features at low rate and I appriciate for that.Seating is comfortable but if we are going with 7 people,to locate the bags is quite impossible.The middle Raw seat is not adjustable as its there in Aria and Innova.

My mail to Mahindra customer care. No response.
Hi,
As I write this email I have taken the decision to sell off my Mahindra XuV 5oo as soon as I get it back from Mahindra Sireesh Auto Maratahalli, Bangalore.
When I bought it, I was beaming with pride to have owned the costliest Indian vehicle made in India by an Indian company.
But little did I know that quality provided in this vehicle is of the lowest standards.
My vehicle registration is KA 50 P XXXX.
Bought a W6 version on 30th January 2015. And from that date till mid June 2016, I have driven the vehicle for 25000 Km.
And in between that what I have had to endure is
1. Faulty AC.
2. Blower repair and replacement.
3. Brake pad replacement.
4. Clutch plate and set change TWO times.
Nobody needs to get the vehicle's clutch set changed TWO times within 17 months and 25000 km. That is outright ridiculous.
My vehicle ceased in december 2015 and I was told clutch is worn out. I had run only 15000km. I was sad and shocked but trusted your technicians and got it replaced at a cost of rs.18000 I think. In June 2016 hardly after 9000Km I experienced issues with clutch again. This time too technicians mentioned clutch has worn out.
They tried explaining to me that in Bangalore traffic this can happen.
But dear reader, I have been driving car in Bangalore from last 11 years. Almost every single day. No other vehicle I own and drive has given me such problems and issues.
I am not a rally racer or a drag racer. Nor am I a technical expert with automobiles.
I am a technical architect with an IT firm and use the vehicle to commute to and from office and for weekend trips just like anyone else.
But instead of giving me joy and confidence. This vehicle has been only cause of agony, pain and troubles.
I am made to pay close to 40,000 Rs within the span of 6 months to change my clutch set. What minimum quality is guaranteed on your product ?? I seek to know. This is a vehicle which I am now calling a wretched one due to its low and abysmal quality.
There is no responsibility or ownership from Mahindra on its product and is forcing guliable customers like me to bear the cost of their low quality product. This is not what I expected from an Indian company.
I pursued all means to communicate and try and understand why should Mahindra be not held responsible for this sorry state of my vehicle with the manager at the service centre. But the answer I get is absolutely unproductive....like a tape recorder keeps on saying it's your fault.
Yes. It is definitely my fault to have chosen XuV as my vehicle. I should not have trusted Mahindra in providing me a quality vehicle for the money given.
I write this email to get this issue/opinion/view taken to higher management. I expect response and an action from your side on this.
But with the experience I have had I don't think you will even acknowledge receiving this email.
One of the worst cars I have ever driven and owned in my life. Hope others reading this will never go for an XuV.
