I test drove Innova, Safari Dicor, New Xylo and even XUV 500 the only one that still wins my heart and mind is Scorpio . I bought it about 8 Years back and have already done 100000 kms... I took him to east, west, north south of India. Scorpio is real SUV not crossover. When u drive this u fill power hight and it is not car so if u r bying this then ur mind set shud not be car. This is a tiger with the power of elephent with huge space of 9 seats. I tried changing him but no replacement in the Indian market. I still have to wait for such suuuuuuuuuuuuuv.
Pricing of scorpio is its strongest point. it is very competitive. The LX is 7.2 lakhs and SLE is 8.2 lakhs. It is comparable to c-segment categories like SX4, Honda City and Hyundai
Verna. This will make sedan buyers also consider this value for money SUV.
Compared to competitors like Innova and Safari, scorpio has much better road presence and durability. Scorpio is much more reliable on rough roads. Safety wise, Mighty Muscular Scorpio is great improvement because now it has ABS in middle category as well.
Scorpio has seen seven years of back to back success and has a lot in it to continue for a long time.

Really good, Especially with SLE (Cause it comes Without Graphics), Good door handles, Musculine look, Air vent on bonnet gives feel of performance it can deliver.

Pretty decent, however not good as compared to innova(I know its nor SUV, but still). Defenitely better than safari(many might disagree)
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
120BHP! Amazing performance. U actually have to control this monster. Fuel economy is good(U will get even better in M2Di model) I get around 12Kmpl in city & 15 on highway. I heard M2Di being 75BHP gives 15Kml On highway.
Gear shifting is a big issue. Its not smooth.

Excellent! As I said the turning is much better than safari.

Its defenitely value for money. Its Mighty, Musculer & dependable.

When I bought it I loved it because it was big and tough, reliable, inexpensive to maintain, had tons of space and I loved using it for daily driving as well as out station trips.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Ergonomics are bad compared with more modern cars. Very bumpy ride especially in the back. Causes severe back ache over medium to long term usage. I used it for 4 years and 50,000 kms and got so tired of it that I sold it.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
Engine is smooth and creamy. FE is ok at 9-10kmpl in city and about 12 on highways. Gearbox remained excellent throughout my use as did the clutch.
Ride Quality & Handling
Very bumpy especially in the back seats and of course the front passenger seat. Uncomfortable, bad ergonomics, starts giving you back ache and stress over time. In the beginning everything is great but as time goes by it becomes progressively worse. Lack of safety kit is a real danger issue given that the roads are becoming more and more dangerous day by day. Lack of speed sensitive power steering can lead to trouble as the steering is way too light - its been tuned for the city, but on highways, in the hands of an inexperienced driver it can be highly dangerous. Braking on this vehicle is extremely dangerous. It has such a capacity for high speeds that regardless of which version one buys, ABS and other safety stuff has to be absolutely mandatory!
Final Words
The Scorpio changed M&M's game when it came. An excellent indigenous design and execution effort. Subsequent versions have been tweaked mainly on the cosmetic front. The new engines and introduction of safety kit are good things, but the basic vehicle design is badly flawed as it is way too top heavy. Handling is poor regardless of the version. It is also very heavy and its boxy construction can be a pain at times.
It is a spacious wagon and has an inexhaustible capacity for luggage and people - an excellent people mover. However it is crude and dated now and really needs a massive upgradation on all counts. It does not simply cut it any more in comparison to the competition. After all the basic design is 10 years old and more now!
Areas of improvement
Ride, Suspension, Handling, Boxy/ Top heavy nature, crude finish. bad braking, extremely light power steering leads to danger. Poor ergonomics lead to fatigue. Bad seats and sitting position plus lack of lumbar support leads to severe back aches and significant tiredness while driving.
Safety kit and modern driver aids have to be made mandatory in whichever version of the Scorpio it is. This is absolutely essential in the modern scenario.
Great value pricing. Large and Spacious, Tough. Reliable. Easy to service etc.Useless brakes. Insufficient safety kit. Bad ride, handling, suspension. Not modern enough in 2012!

Pathetic, Is an understatement, very Bad finishing, Absolutely nothing to cheer about it. I do not know what Mahindra charge for Good Engine and Terrible interior, Dash-board is like truck dashboard. LX is a cheapest version & has nothing in it which you can call a feature. Interirors is very dull, itsn, Speaker are Fitted in such a place when you come out, U tend to kick it so that it can break

Please improve the service quality in chennai, the service center are not at all performing good. I am getting regular repeted complaine. Most the identified and informed issues are not fixed. I had this issue with MPL some time's in Zulaka motors. In my 45K service. they changed the power steering hose and some other parts related to that. After that I am getting lot of steering vibration while I am in above 100 KM/H. This was not there earlier. I have told this to the MPL again and again. but not feed back has been responded by them. I have done this service in MPL Saligramam(Chennai). I am scorpio lover by nature. I love my car very much. Due to this bad service quality I am re-thinking my options now. I am very hesitent to suggest this due to bad quality of Service in Chennai Area.

Exterior 4/5 : Exterior is superb. Looks are wild cat like. Can introduce better colour combinations, as options are very limited apart from white and black.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) 1/5 :Very unhappy. Very outdated dashboard design & interiors, extremely poor legspace. Legspace is blocked by clumsy horizontal bars under the seats, so cannot stretch legs under seats either for either middle row or back for the 8 seater I have. Plus a huge AC block on the floor leaves no space even in the middle. Seats have oversized thigh length(length from backrest to front) which further restrict leg movement. Feet become sore after long journeys. Seat is wide enough to easily seat 3 people but no headrest in the middle ! How can a person sit in middle on long journeys ? No compartment even for tool kit, No roof AC, no blower speed control on floor AC. Front seats lack lumbar/lower back support so gives a back pain. Last row seat cannot be folded and hung on the sides. The rubber lining of the opening in the body for handbrake is crude.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox 3.5/5. Good pickup and performance.
Ride Quality & Handling 3/5. The announcements of door ajar, hand brake and fuel are very helpful. On rough roads, sometimes the shocks bounce back so hard that you could get thrown up from your seats.
Final Words Powerful beast at good price. Everything is very good except interiors.

I purchased an automatic in 2009. This is my second scorpio, the earlier one was a manual transmission which gave me 1,60,000 wonderful Kms.
The Automatic is a nightmare...after 14,000, I had regular complaints of jerky gear shifts at adhoc rpms. Each time the service station would set something with a laptop without charging me anything.
The car has only been to Authorized service stations for servicing. Every 2500 km till 10,000 km, Every 5,000 Km till 30,000, and Every 10,000km till now which is Just 60,000.
Today, at 60,000 the car has packed up. The transmission refuses to shift gears. The car starts and that's it... it does not matter if its in P,N,D,R. Its stationary.
I can only assume that the company sold me a defective transmission and was buying time through every service to get it out of the warranty period.
Now, The service station says that it would look into the problem, but till then they would like to inform that at every 60,000 km, an automatic transmission requires flushing that is for....please take a seat. Whooping 40,000 to 50,000 RS.
I have been in touch with "Mahendra with you hamesha'. Which they are not. They are with the privately run service station hamesha. Its just a call center with people not aware of cars and dependent on the service station on whatever 'technical' jargon they dish out. Where is the company in this and whats its responsibility after the car leaves the factory is totally an unknown?
The scorpio is supposed to be an off roader. My self driven scorpio is a city car. The only off roading its done is climbing delhis flyovers and dropping into delhis pot holes. An AtoB office drive is all the poor things ever done.
Its been Two weeks now that my car is parked in the service station without parts.
Please dont waste your money buying the Automatic. Its cheap engineering.
