Scorpio is already the Best Indian SUV by Mahindra who is the leading manufacturer of utility vehciles in India. Scorpio has no need of a review as such but since the New 2009 refreshed version of Scorpio is doing the round of the markets, lets have a look at the New version.
Engine:
What is most characteristic about an SUV? Its is most definitely the power of its engine. In Scorpio, the 2.2 litre , 4-cylinder mHawk Engine is one powerhouse of a engine. The Scorpio can do 0 to 60 in about 6 seconds. It produces 120 bhp of power. Now that is a lot of power ad you can definitely feel it when you’re driving a Scorpio.
Safety measures:
Mahindra Scorpio has been manufactured with Safety in mind. Its design makes the steering column crumple in case of frontal collision. There are also the unyeilding steel bars in the doors.
Suspension:
What truely makes Scorpio the SUV is its suspension. A SUV can be called an SUV when you can drive your vehcile easily over bumpy and ruged terrain. Scorpio’s suspension is the best when negotiating bumpy roads. It is best for the potholed Indian roads. Its 4Wd suspension includes Coil Spring, Anti Roll Bar and Torsion bar in the front and Multilink and coil spring in the rear suspension. Scorpio is ideal for drivers who like a little adventure and risk. Off-roading is possible with a Mahindra Scorpio. So if you like, take a chance and try it once in a while with Scorpio.
Mileage:
Suv’s are supposed to be Gas Guzzlers. But a mileage of 9 to 11 kmpl is good for a vehicle of Scorpio’s size and Power.
Interiors:
The upholstery and interior has taken quite a bit of change as compared to older versions. The dual tone upholstery with new arm rests and a seat design that will give you maximum comfort makes traveling in Scorpio a pleasurable experience. The seats can be slided for creating extra leg room also.
Power steering:
Scorpio can be easily manuvered around because of the excellent control of its Power Steering.
Looks:
The main variation that the Refreshed Scorpio provides is the Muscular look. The front Bumper is more chunky and the Signature Mahindra Grille looks more imposing with the Silver tooth. The Front bumper comes with ar dams, mud flaps and Fog lights. The Body design is also very appealing. Scorpio looks like a SUV is supposed to look. Very Muscular, very Sporty.
The best new addition: Powered ORVM’s
The New Scorpio comes with pair of electronically controlled Rear View Mirrors. They can be controlled with a push of a button which is very handy for any type of car.
I love Scorpio and will always recommend Scorpio to others. If you like you can check out the New Mighty muscular Scorpio

Hi Friends....Its been one month now that i am driving around town in my new scorpio vlx and now i am facing the first problem with it:-The micro hybrid button which is supposed to switch off the engine while the suv is in neutral position had stopped working.I think out of 10 times i tried it,it only responded max 4 times. Also i will like to tell my friends who are in mood of buying the scorpio is that the fit and finish of this suv is very pathetic,i mean to say the plastic which is used on outside of the suv is so bad fitted that you can see the gapes in it very clearly.Similarly the cover of the glove box in the dashboard won't close until you devote 2-3 minutes in closing it because it so badly fitted in the dashboard..
The good thing is that i am getting a mileage of 12kmpl in city and 15kmpl on the highway apart from the pleasure of crushing bad pot holes and fear on the faces of drivers of small cars.I have also installed the gps security navigator in my suv which helps me track my car any where in india and i can also switch off the ignition from my mobile through a single sms and the engine would simply die untill i will send one more sms to start it up.Good mileage cosidering the size of the vehiclevery pathetic fit and finish, micro hybrid button stopped respondingइक्सटीरियर/स्टाइल्स

a/c wents on the top, seating could have been better
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
very smooth,i get 10-11 avg on road in city or higway its almost the same, automatic gears is fun and is verry nice cause in trafic you dont feel the stress.

Areas of improvement
little bit more on the suspention,a/c vents on top and not to forget the last row sitting has no space at all

This is my second Scorpio. The first one I drove 88000 Km. Never faced any issues. The new one is AT. It is fun to drive in city. Mileage is not bad. I am getting 8.75 Km/litre in city. After first service I should get 1 Km more. On an average I think I should get 10 Km/ litre ( same as Manual). For Indian roads, this the best SUV. Easy to drive, Less maintenance, tough, can drive in any roads. value for Money, has all the latest features like ABS, Cruise Control etc etc.High End AT costed me 13 lakh. I have driven most of the top SUV's. Considering the cost, maintenance and Indian condition, I rate Scorpio 9/10 compared to other SUV's.Those who are planning to buy a vehicle in the range of 13 lakhs, test drive Scorpio AT before you decide.
The areas for improvements are a) Bad quality Dash Board b) Hopeless door locks c) Seats are a bit shaky and not good finish, Require DVD Player, require more provision for storage etc.
Power, Smooth AT, Good View, Spacious, Value for MoneyBad plastics, low quality door locks

Exterior 4 x4 looks good, I just hate the back of the SUV, so I got the tyre at the back to make it look little good. Front looks in M halk is awesome. I dint like the alloys, makes the car looks dull, so I changed 'em. Graphics looks okay cause I got the white one.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Little boring cockpit but all feature works good. I hate the music system so I got my own system. Space in the middle row is little less but it is comfortable. Sensors are cool but kinda inaccurate at reverse.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox I got a 4 x 4 and I love every bit of it, cause driving is a pleasure. Engine is very responsive and the big vehicle moves very smoothly. Fuel Economy is okay, it gives me around 12 kmpl in city with ac on and around couple of km's on highway. Gear box works very well on mhalk. I enjoy thr drive and feel is awesome.
Ride Quality & Handling I guess Mhalk is very balenced vehicle, but suspension s little problem, car handels well on high speed, but sudden brakes makes the vehile little unstable because of suspension. Still It beats a class above it.
Final Words I bought my first scorpio in 2004, it was turbo dx2, I kept the for couple of years and than bought 2.6 crde and had some fun withe car and now I bought Mhalk in 2011 and I am just loving it. My younger brother drives TATA SAFARI, but I never enjoy the driving of it as I enjoy scorpio. I dont know may be I am use to scorpio. My new M HALK 4 x 4 is awesome. This is all one can dream off. It behaves very good and you could feel the power when the 4 x 4 mode is on, It changes your off rodaing experience. I am very happy with my scorpio.
Areas of improvement Suspension and cabin noise, Improve the quality of audio and little more responsive buttons on steering, roof ac is needed, choices in alloy wheels and better staff at showroom.
Excellrnt SUV for INDIAN CONDITIONS, LESS MAINTENENCE, MILEGE IS OKAY, DRIVERS CAR, AWESOMELittle Noisy, SUSPENSION NEEDS WORK, AUDIO SUCKS, DRIVER'S SEAT IS LIL UNCOMFY

Exterior Good bold lookng tall suv with new mHawk engine, good head lamp design.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Front leg space is less, need good driving seating design, side doors should have bottle/magazine holder because no big glove size and other space, tooling kit should have toolbox area(for small tools),Rear A/c Vent should have seperate air flow control(to regulate air flows),Dash should be wider in design like Xylo has.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine is good less sound inside the cabin and having good pickup,High mounted intercooler is good in design concept, Fuel avg is around 10km/Ltr, Gear box is smooth provided correctly shifting made.
Ride Quality & Handling Awesome riding quality and comfort, Handing of this vehicle is good upto 100km/Hr.
Final Words Overall I personally have faith in this product being Mahindra quality system. SUV in this segment is having excellent performance and its value for money beside some designing lacks in Lx Model.
Areas of improvement As mentioned in concerned areas especially smart designing of space utilization with good fit and finish.
Bold Look,Engine(mHawk), Light Steering,Less leg space in front,Lacks with door side bottle, magazine pockets, poor finish of control switchesइक्सटीरियर/स्टाइल्स

Exterior Great looks, you get the respect from others.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) OK.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox My scorpio just 16 days old, and I have driven it only for 600Km, in this short life span its Clutch has gone faulty, Fortunately it did not happen on road while on move, I had parked my SUV in my office, when I was about to go home in evening and started it, it did not move due to Clutch problem. Clutch gets fully depressed to the bottom and does not come up, there is no resistance at all. I don't know whats the issue, have logged complaint to mahindra, they had to Tow the vehicle. More than any thing else, the Pride that I had when I bought it and brought daily to my office. is Vanished now :(
Ride Quality & Handling Ok.
Final Words Its Not Reliable, I wanted to buy Safari, but due for reliability factor and after reading many reviews, I bought Scorpio. But now I am not a proud owner any more.
Areas of improvement Definitely Mahindra should do analysis of the complaints that they are receiving from customer and try to overcome most common issues like Clutch failure in VLX models.

Scorpio LX Crde Turbo 2.6 - 2000 km driven – update on performanceLong distance trip Bangalore-Coorg-Bangalore last weekend in the Scorp – with quite a bit of internal Coorg running around too.Route: Bangalore-Mandya-Srirangapatna-Hunsur by pass, to Coorg. Back via Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Bylekuppa, Periyapatna etc. Roads were good for the most part on the highways. Several stretches within Coorg itself which were very bad, bumpy, potholed and very muddy and rutted on account of rains. The exiting Periyapatna road is very bad for about 20kms or so. Full of ruts and pot holes. Engine/Pickup etc: As usual, fantastic feel, pickup, performance at high speeds with the Turbo Whine etc. Did 140-145-kmph top speed on the BMIC road on several stretches on the way out and on the way back, but only for short distances because of the ever present dangers of people/ animals suddenly crossing the road. This Scorp is really and truly an effortless MILE MUNCHING MONSTER! Load: Wife in front seat, and a friend in the back seat plus luggage and golf bags etc. Also had the 2 steel wheels as ballast. Comfort: Front seat absolutely no trouble as usual. Back seat was comfortable according to my friend – he was strapped in so the effects of inertia and other movement was minimized. He said the rear suspension was far better than the earlier Scorpios. Also said that the seating position at rear is improved in the new Scorp compared to the old Scorp. He is about 5.9-5.10 in height and had no problems with space. Rear AC vents gave sufficient throw and kept him cool too. Brakes also were first class. Great stopping power.Hill Drive and Bad Road Performance:Was going pretty fast in the hills around 60-80kmph on average on most of the journeys, while cornering, the rear passenger felt a bit thrown around because of the tight sharp bends, but was held comfortably by seat belt. Absolutely no body roll from the vehicle communicated itself though, to me as the driver. Luggage also remained intact in the back. The Scorp’s tight, compact proportions and good low end grunt felt fantastic while zipping up and down the tight bends in the hills. The power of this engine is really great. And I say again, this car does not handle like a boat – it feels really nice to drive in the hills. Most of the bumps and potholes absorbed beautifully by the suspension and of course good tyres and alloy wheels. High ground clearance is a dream to experience! The stability around corners with the alloys was absolutely fantastic. Only on a few stretches of really bad roads did I slow down but I still took most bad bumpy stretches at about 40 kmph . I had to slow down a few times to a dead halt and further progress in first gear. But all in all, I treated the vehicle more or less the same as last week, when we drove bad roads to Ooty and back.Rattles and Squeaks etc:The jeep was and is not rattling at all even after this type of harsh treatment- only the golf club heads were rattling about inside the bags on the journey! Some Observations: Mud splashing: This jeep has the regular stock tyres with 16 inch Aura Alloys. Since they stick out a bit from the sides of the vehicle, while going through mud and water, the vehicle sprayed itself quite liberally. Water splashing onto bonnet: Plus since this vehicle has only the stock bumper without the extending flanges in front, while going through deep water patches, the water gets splashed onto the bonnet and the windscreen – causing temporary visibility chaos-– but very soon put right if the wipers are on. Outside Rear view Mirrors vibrating: One thing is that while driving on unevenly surfaced roads and even at medium/high speeds on highways, I find that the external rear view mirrors tend to vibrate/ shake – they don’t make any noise but when you see traffic behind you, the image of the vehicles in the mirror tends to jerk and rattle about a bit – this could be avoided by each mirror being fitted with some kind of vibration damping mechanism – one should ideally be able to read the number plate on the vehicle coming up behind one, when one is on the highway – in the current scenario one is not able to do that! KMs covered/ FE etc: 730 odd km. Had a full tank before leaving. Filled up 35 litres in Coorg. Reached Bangalore with 7-8 litres in the tank. Used AC throughout. Only in coorg in the rain did we use heater. About 10-11Kmpl returned, so that s ok by me.
