I am Subash Chandran, doing my MBA at Karunya School of Managment, Kovai, Tamil Nadu. We are owning a Scorpio for the past 3 yrs. I am the person who is driving my Scorpio. After buying my car, i am also keen interested in our India Automobile company, M&M, who are doing a rapid progress in their automobile sector. I think, most of the people have noticed their progress after the introduction of Scorpio.

About my car, i like driving my car, especially its smoothness. My car model is 2003 ,December. but still i feel its smoothness. I heared that , the new model is more smoother nad poweful due to it crde engine and the suspension provided in the rear. The main disadvantage is that, it is having some handling problems when reaches a high speed. The retailers are not providing good customer service as to our expectations. Please note these poins which will help in incresing the sales of Scorpio.

Also most of the jeep drivers are now planning to change their vechicles to SUV's. They are not considering Scorpio, because of its high price, even though they have a desire. So please bring some attractive finance schemes to capture the market.

IT STYLING WHICH GIVES A PROUD 4 THE OWNER AND ITS POWERFUL ENGINETROUBLE IN HANDLING ON HIGH SPEED, BAD AFTER SERVICE FROM RETAILERS, ESPECIALLY IN KERALA

My Scoprio 2.6 LX is now 8 year old. Had maintenance issue from first week (Pass. side door could not be opened because of the door cladding operlap). had to send vehicle 2-3 times to workshop in first 2 months. I was smart enough to buy extend warranty (2+2yrs) also because they had to change lots of parts in the original waranty period. In 4 years they must have changed parts worth 1.5 Lakhs though car spend significant time at workshop & I spend for other service charges , pretty much every thing like transmission to Steering column to Starting motor. I just gave car for 75K km service & got a estimate of around 1.5 lakhs. Average cost to maintain this car is Rs. 50K/yr though I use only 1K/month.

Ever wonder why no Cab cos use Mahindra vehicles? XYLO is 40% cheaper than Innova & Scorpio 30% cheaper still they go for Innova?

Consumers like us go for Aggressive looks & Intial cost without realizing that they end-up paying much more in long run, in addition to time & hassle at the workshop.

If import duties are brought at par with Excise duties & Diesel at par with Petrol, Indian Car cos will immediately shut-down.

Good road presence, Value for Money for Initial costHigh Maintenance, Lot of space but poor utilization

She is the best in our country, tough, smart and beautiful. The road grip is excellent. Power is ample. AC requires  improvement. Driving her is like sitting on your sofa in the drawing room and enjoying a cigar. Breaks are deadly and on the road other respect you by giving way.

We are proud to have such classic productions in India.

Buy the hi end and ask Mahindra to convert same to PASSSION Scorpio. The immediate back space still requires improvement.

I had been planning to buy a Scorpio for last 2 years and in fact I had booked it once in 2005 and then cancelled it. My two best friends drive scorpio. One of them drives the old CRDE model and the other new SLX (with bonnet scoop). Both of them love their scorpios.

Finally decided to buy one and fortunately the MHawk launched just in time. Yes, that's right .. fortunately !!

I booked the car even without taking a test drive, reason simple - I trust Mahindra, love the scorpio, new advanced engine and other cool features, and not to miss better fuel efficiency. I read a lot of reviews and was hesitant to buy the MHawk for a price of 10.5 initially, however now I think it is well worth it.

To be specific about the pleasure of driving

      1. Parking sensors work great

      2. Have not switched on the headlights till now (have been driving for last one week) - sensor headlights

      3. ABS

      4. Engine feels powerful (my two friends who own Scorpios fell in love with this one and told me that this is much better than their own)

      5. Quiet - Sounds like a petrol car

      6. I thought cruise control was a waste but actually it is not that bad.. I have used it couple of times and works fine and is kinda cool

Having said all that, I wished they had given better music system, electronic side view mirrors, air bags etc..

Anyway.. I will be able to confirm the mileage in the next couple of days once I refill again.

All those planning to buy.. I would say 'Go for it'

      Cheers

      Sumit

I am one who has graduated from a Bolero I owned for 4 years until this Scorpio LX BS IV that I bought in July 2010. I have stayed with Mahindra vehicles as it is my belief that one gets value for money. Here is my review which I hope will provide some constructive inputs for a better vehicle. The Scorpio that rolled out in 2006 came with 42 modifications over the previous models. The Mhawk version is the present upscale platform. With the suggested improvements the vehicle should maintain its brand image over other cars in the same category.

Exterior Very good styling. Distinctive road presence.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Finish could be improved - quality of plastic and colour could be better. Where is a clock on the dashboard? A good LED timepiece would definitely increase the show of the dashboard console (cheaper models of other manufacterers flaunt this). The flooring is the bugbear of Mahindra MUVs - the fibrous floor lining is very difficult to maintain - it can get easily stained and dirt/mud is difficult to remove. The floor mats provided are of very inferior quality - they are very light and so move around thus spreading the dirt on the floor rather than containing it. Rubber floor lining could be considered for standard issue.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine performance is the best feature of this vehicle as the pick-up is superb. The engine power available on all gears is very good. Fuel economy is not more than 10 kmpl in city traffic. The gearbox is a bit stiff but that is a feature of all Mahindra vehicles.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is good due to the modified suspension but the roll factor is very evident when off-roading.

Final Words This variant (Mhawk) is much better than the predecessors but there is room for improvement to continue dominating this segment of vehicles.

Areas of improvement One feature that needs to be implemented is a gutter above the windshield to contain the rain water from the roof (the Bolero has this). This would prevent the cascade of rain water from the sloped roof onto the windshield when the vehicle brakes or slows down in traffic. This water from the roof is sudden and obliterates the road view ahead for a time period before the wipers can effectively cope.

Another matter which needs consideration is the housing around the rear tyres. There is no protection for the mud thrown at the front end of the rear tyres. This mud then coats the body area immediately ahead which includes the inner surfaces of the rear doors - a serious corrosion threat. A shielding arrangement for this should be standard issue.

Overhead A/C vents (as in the Toyota Innova and Tata Safari) would increase air circulation especially in the second and third row of seats.

Quiet engine, smooth running and great looksInteriors and accessories could be better

I inherited to this version of Scorpio from a Range Rover which I used in English country roads. I am really overwhelmed by its performance and features. It has everything a true motorist requires. Best feature is that it just doesn’t have any fancy feature you never use! It has tire tronics, cruise control, voice prompts, reverse sensors, light sensor, electronic fuel lid and even a rain sensor...wow!!! The AC is really powerful. I have used many global brands and found this matching with those standards. Its better to buy a new car than an antique global car introduced in India 'new'! This is real value for money! I fixed a GPS and changed the stereo! Its no second best. RajStyle, AT, Power, Control, Reputation and new age featuresLeg room of rear seats, no manual door locks, audio needs improvement

Observations after a hard driving trip to Ooty and back (770 Km all incl plus about 400 odd km in the city)

      Long Distance Performance:
Engine: Brilliant feeling. First class pickup, Lovely feel on the long distance highway- effortless mile munching engine - lovely to hear the faint turbo whine while accelerating on the highway. (Didnt listen to much music while driving because I was too pleased with the Turbo Whine and Engine sound.)Very smooth and powerful.

Route:(BMIC Road, Mysore bypass, Nanjangud, Gundlupet, Bandipur,Masinagudi, Ooty) - Particularly bad and pot holed stretch from Nanjangud onwards to Bandipur). And Several bits and pieces of BMIC Road (notably the stretch where it is about to reach Banerghatta Road)were also deeply rutted and potholed, since the road is still not complete.

Driving Comfort: Fantastic, snug and secure when belted up in the front 2 seats. My wife kept saying how comfortable and safe she felt in the Scorpio all the way. Had loaded the back fully with assorted paraphernalia plus golf bag etc etc. Also had placed 2 of my steel wheels in the boot space as ballast. Nitrogen filled tyres added to our comfort. Had done wheel balancing and alignment before starting out.

The Scorpio handled all bad stretches with ease. High ground clearance helped a great deal, so I didnt really slacken speed too much even over the bad stretches.

Hill Driving: Going up Sigur wasnt as much of an effort as it used to be in my Bolero, since this Crde Turbo engine easily takes the steep incline and frequent hairpin bends with relative ease in 2nd gear. Sometimes, when slowed down terribly by buses or other slower traffic it was necessary to drop down to 1st,gain a little momentum and then move along in 2nd. The compact proportions of the Scorpio and its good clicky and tight gearing makes for a very good hill driving experience, chucking the jeep around the bends and curves and powering out in 2nd or 3rd where necessary. No trouble at all - The SCORP Does NOT handle like a boat, as I had been led to believe. But please ensure that the rear is well loaded with ballast because this car is at its best when fully loaded.

The new improved rear suspension helped a lot in keeping all the luggage intact and in one place, unlike the Bolero's leaf springs which used to chuck things up and down a bit. Body roll in the hills was certainly not as pronounced as I had been led to expect. Even when I took 4 passengers inside and around the Nilgiris, driving at reasonable speeds in the hills (60-80kmph) at times, there was no problem. It is a real pleasure to drive the Scorpio on the good roads between Ooty, Coonoor, Kotagiri and back up from Kotagiri to Doddabetta and thus to Ooty.

Even on the bad stretches of rutted, muddy roads inside certain parts of Ooty and around the Nilgiris, we noticed the Scorpio handling everything without any protest. The only trouble was caused by some small piles of tar and small pieces of concrete jelly from the road works, which I was forced to go over - this caused some tar and pieces to get into the front wheels, near the ball joint and lower arm - some pieces had worked their way into the space between the wheel boss and the rim mounting, causing a squeaky noise each time we turned to the left. This eased off though, with a little driving around and going on bad roads, which must have caused the tar to fall off.

However on the return journey, on the smooth and beautifully surfaced Mysore Bangalore superhighway, at speeds past 130kmh, I did find a slight amount of steering vibration and negative feedback - I attributed this instinctively to my pushing the vehicle on bad terrain during the trip to have caused the Tyre Balancing and Alignment to have gone off kilter.

Fuel Economy: Did 380 km (including uphill etc and filled up 36odd Litres.
On the return, we had clocked 390Km (including a detour into Mysore etc) and filled up 37 odd litres today. Since I do not follow all the general suggestions about OPTIMUM SPEED of driving etc, I am quite happy with the average return of about 10 odd Kmpl. I prefer to enjoy my car, and testing its capabilities, but of course, within reason and within bounds of responsibility.

Work necessary after the round trip:
Tyre Balancing, Alignment and rotation - all 4 tyres in a simple X Rotation Pattern - (the 5th one will come into play after the first 5000km has been run.)
We noted this morning that all 4 tyres had become pretty un balanced and needed a complete job of re-weighting etc to bring them to normal.
Also noted that the windscreen washer hose had become disconnected from its place.
We also noted that the alignment had gone off by +/- 3 points - where it is supposed to read 18 on each side, it read 15 on each side.

I am sure this was largely because of the extremely bad stretch of road between Nanjangud and Bandipur and of course, the rutted track driving and bad broken stretches while commuting within Ooty and the Nilgiris.
All this was soon put right of course.

With the Nitrogen filled tyres, I am not feeling any difference in the tyre pressure yet, but will be checking and filling up with Nitrogen this week (since the chap is not open on Sundays) - will write separately about my findings on that.

And of course the poor Scorp badly needed a good bath, both inside and outside, so it felt nice to take it for a grooming session at Lalbagh Road to the Automatic Car Wash and Shampoo job there!

All in all, I am extremely glad I chose to stick with Mahindra vehicles over all other choices and buy the new Scorpio Crde 2.6 Lx.
Next week I will give you feedback after a hard driving trip to Coorg and back.
Comfort, Driving Pleasure, Performance, Power, Speed, Handling,ToughnessFuel Economy could be slightly better - but Im not sure if it was my driving.

Exterior Extremely well fitted and finished with a whole new level of quality intruduced, making the vehicle really impressive when compared to the old Scorpio 4X4 model. One area where i remain concerned on the finish is the front cover, mesh and plastic splash plate used on the front intercooler.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) A very well finished vehicle with definite quality assurance and good usable features. Small complaint about the interior carpeting where in some places the finish fit is not as good as the metal and other finished in the vehicle.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Major improved performance, economy excellent and gearbox responsive. Although kick down feature sometimes over reacts to a more than requried gear. Once again i feel the old and the new Scorpio 4X4 requires a larger fuel tank, the new 60 litre is an improvement but could have been at least 80 litre's which would be more suitable for avid 4X4 drivers that really use the vehicle to the fullest extent. A definite additional feature which could be included in the next generations should be a 'SNORKEL' breather for all air intakes to ensure good water based usage of the vehicle as well.

Ride Quality & Handling Superb ride quality when compared to the old Scorpio 2.6 4X4. Handling on tar roads great improvement, on dirt certainly as capable but with more stability and overall handling excellent.

Final Words My second Mahindra Scorpio 4X4 and i am extremely confident that i will receive the same value and reliability from this second vehicle as the old Scorpio (138,000 kms trouble free motoring).

Areas of improvement To early to say as the overall immediate imrpessions are excellent and promising, time will tell and i will be certain to update this site for feedback in this regard.

Good upgrade from the old Scorpio, excellent fuel economy, softer ride and comfort, extrasAuto box kick down very sensitive often kicks down one too many.

Booked Scorpio in 23rd Sep 2010 from Zulaikha Motors, A delivery timeline of 5 weeks was promised then. On all Test Drives prior to booking I found the gear shift quite uncomfortable and upon enquiry with the Sales person from the Dealer, he discouraged me from buying the Automatic model citing "very poor mileage". I thought I will get over the uncomfortable feeling from the gear shift over time, however while browsing thru some of the reviews I read a news article where one of the GM from Mahindra in a press release has confirmed it to be among the best in Automatic shifts in India and the mileage impact to be just around 1 km/l. I wanted to confirm this from authentic sources, but couldn’t find much on the net, hence decided to contact Mahindra directly over their support line listed on the website. To my surprise the call center seemed to be poorly managed as only in my 3rd attempt I could get someone to speak to me in the line and almost instantly the person said that he cannot help me with the question but registered an issue in the tracker with a promise that someone will get in touch with me shortly. I did get email / cell phone confirmation of my issue however there was no response for more than 3 working days. During this time I had also already emailed the dealer to note my change of booking to the Automatic Model and there was no response or confirmation from them either. I was quite disappointed considering the fact that at least when anything is in Sales any company/ dealer is most responsive. Concerned, I wrote to the head of customer service at Mahindra, after which things started falling in place and I got prompt response for booking confirmation as well as Mahindra Sales rep spoke to me about the technical questions. My request for this change was given in 2nd week of Oct 2010 and I requested the dealer for delivery by first week of Nov 2010 as I had planned some work related travel. Dealer / as well as Mahindra confirmed to me that it will be be possible to deliver only by 3rd week of Nov 2010, which I refused as I was not available to take the delivery. Instead I requested for delivery of a 2011 model in Jan 2011 and I did get a confirmation on that. In Dec 2010, first week, already not having the confidence on dealer due to the earlier delay in response, I again checked if the delivery will be on track and finalize the financials to ensure no further delays due to finance related transactions. Again, after few follow-ups I got a response after 4 days that the vehicle will be delivered only on mid Feb 2011 and the prices will be at the prevailing rates at the time of delivery. This took me by surprise / shock, why should a company with confirmed demand and 10 years of experience in manufacturing the same product line have a proper streamlined supply chain and proper stock to not have such unreasonable wait time from booking to delivery. I was already concerned with slow response time and wanted to cancel the order, however I wanted to hear from Mahindra for one last time if they can do something about delivering it earlier and finalizing the prices. I did get some calls that the work is in progress and some highlights that 2011 manufacturing plan is not yet planned and an assurance that the price can be finalized at the prevailing rates a more formal confirmation / response from Mahindra came only on 20th Dec 2010, only after I called their representative that the delivery of the vehicle will be made before end of Jan 2011 and the payment/invoicing can be done now at prevailing rates. Following which, I contacted the dealer person in charge to provide the performa to allow me continue with the finance. Again, as usual it took 3 days for a response and to my surprise I was told that it will only be in Jan the performa will be generated at prevailing rates. Doesn’t the consumer has right to know the price of what he is buying at the time of booking? And this was clearly a flip-flop, and hence I again requested Mahindra to clarify to the dealer and close the prices at the Dec 2010 rates as was agreed over the phone call. However, after a day I again get a call that prices in Jan 2011 will increase by 10% and exact details will be available only in Jan 2011 and that’s when the prices can be firmed up… and it took Mahindra almost 20 days to inform me. Had they told me about this price change earlier, I may have considered getting a 2010 Dec model itself. More so the integrity is questionable with the flip-flop on what they had said and responding mostly over the call and not as an email response as well as the delay tactics indicate a nexus between company rep and dealer. I have sent an email to cancel my order and refund the booking amount in full, hopefully at least the this happens in prompt manner. It is already 24rth Dec 2010 and my New Car is still doesn’t seem like a reality, this entire transaction has left a bad taste in my mouth about Mahindra and has caused grief/pain and delayed my plans for the new car by almost 3 months now. I consider this completely unprofessional way of managing customers and hope they could be made accountable. If such is the pathetic state of affairs during Sales, I can only imagine how bad there service would have been and hence glad in a way for eye opener before the purchase.
