i20 1.2 Sportz BS-IV- Its a dream machine

 

Exterior As this is my first car, we (with my wife) researched a number of cars before finalizing one. We had tested Figo/Beat/Puno/Aveo earlier. But when we saw a dark gray i20 in showroom, we were simply astonished by its bold and solid look. That was its second generation model which is much more appealing than its previous one. It is really a big car. To us road presence of Barry Red color is much more attractive than the Dark Gray one even the latter one is more gorgeous in well furnished and arranged showroom. Its double tone metallic finish color, front grill chrome finish, head light really rocks. Overall this car simply makes its distinguished presence on the road. We finally selected the Barry Red color. The mirror mounted turn indicator adds the quality of the car in a great way.

 

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) You enter the cabin and it gives a real feel of richness and completeness. The blue LED is ultimate. The instrument cluster, the look of the gauges makes the cabin as a well decorated small drawing room. Back seats are very comfortable for fairly long journey. Front seat and driver seat is really well placed and ergonomically shaped. As I am an average height guy, a height adjustable driver seat would have been very helpful. Inside chrome finish especially on the gear top is very pleasant. Its dash board seems bigger than the usual cars. So a lot of spaces are wasted on the top of the dash board. The Leg room is more than enough, the footrest gives the nice comfort while driving. Its large boot is really helpful as we travel to our native place very frequently. Its audio system is a real pleasure and fun. Additional USB port adds more to it. AC works fine but never tested strongly as this is winter season now. Overall it gives you a very compact, classy and comfortable feeling when you are inside this beauty.

 

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox I stay in Haldia, West Bengal. This is not a typical city drive or highway drive. One can assume it as a hybrid of 50%-50% drive overall. The engine starts very quietly. It runs like silky smooth. Noise is almost absent. Reach around 60-70 km/h speed, the engine works absolutely noise free. Pick up is slightly lower than Swift or Beat, no doubt about it. You cant start like zooom... But it gives a rock solid road grip and smooth gliding feelings. Gear box is butter smooth from the moment of delivery except the 1st gear. Hope it will too become smoother after couple of services. Its gear changing indication is very helpful. I haven't crossed more than 80 kmph till now and play only in Haldia, I am getting about 11.5-12.0 km/l on AC off mostly with two passengers. Hyundai Kharagpur says it will increase after 2nd service for sure. I have done about 500 kms and waiting for my 1st servicing.

 

Ride Quality & Handling Ride in my i20 is absolutely a pleasure. Back seat easily accommodates three adult of normal size. one can make a fairly long tour easily, no need to take a SUV. It gives a comfort like sedan. Power steering is very sensitive and listens to you. Moving the car in a long jam of hundreds of trucks in Haldia road has become a play for me not a matter of worry. Its low carve radius is really helpful in crowded city driving. Its two mirrors size is bigger than the usual, so be careful when driving in crowed.

 

Final Words It is a great family car with all its essential and luxury requirements to you. The car definitely catches the eyes of others. You must be proud of having this big beauty. Definitely you may get bit low mileage as this is a heavy car but the difference is not that much to worry you. My final word is "GO, GRAB IT".

If you have planned to buy the car from Keshav Hyundai, Kharagpur, be serious and cautious while dealing. These people are having less experience in business. They are nice people, helpful but they are not that professional in their work. They are cordial but can make number of mistakes during dealing.

 

Areas of improvement Engine may be more powerful for a big car like i20. Driver seat height adjustment certainly adds more usefulness to it. I think price is bit higher than what it should be.
