A rainy Friday afternoon in Bangalore, everyone preparing to go home from work and chill out, but i am franctically pacing around trying to get my DD's ready. I wanted the Fiat Palio 1.6 Sport, and i wanted it at my doorstep today!!!
After all arrangements were done, the showroom guys were quick with the works and by 7.00 pm that Friday, the car was standing in front of my house!!!
Exterior
Fiat has given a considerable facelift to the new Palio, with the cool looking headlamps. The 1.6 is available in just 2 colors Red and Black, so i opted for the fiery looking, attention grabbing Ferrari Red.
Interiors
The interiors too are pretty well done with dual color dashboards and plush beige interiors, with sufficient Cubby holes wherever required. The only crib i have is that the Cup holders are integrated into the Glove box lid. Otherwise the dashboard is pretty decent with good readability. This car has oodles of elbow room and the rear is spacous too comfortably seating 3 adults with decent leg room.
Engine and Performance
The 1.6 L 100 Bhp monster is the main reason i bought this beauty. It has a amazing response in all the gears and the AC does not load the engine too much and response is pretty much the same. The top speed they say is in the 170's but i just did a 120 since it is the frst week.
Handling
The car feels very stable at speeds of over 100 and with better tyres will do really good at cornering at these speeds, being a pretty heavy car at almost a ton, the Palio is defenitely known for excellent stability and does not disappoint
Mileage
Well for a combined drive of the city and highway (50:50) i got around 13-14 Kmpl with AC, which is not bad at all for this kind of performance.
Value for Money
The 1.6 version comes loaded with Alloys, Tubeless tyres, central locking, rear wipers fog lamps, rear defogger etc, which makes it a value for money car at an impressive price tag of approx 5 Lakhs on road.
Overall i am proud to own a car which has the power and space of any top mid sized sedan, with a price tag that is not a pinch to my wallet.

hi friends.. i brought my palio 1.6 stile on 31st jan onlyfrom A-one motors,delhi, so i can't write much about its fuel consumption but no doubt that its a great car to ride on..i absolutely loved its style as it had tubeless tyres with alloys and fog lamps and nice finishing and i opted for metallic grey and it really looks good
About its interior-good combination of dual colours and the beige interior finish looks cool,but i find the dashboard a bit odd otherwise its fine...company provided cup holders but they are located in the glove compartment.The seats are very comfortable but as i am around 6ft i feel legroom is on a bit less side.
The 1.6cc engine with 100bhp is very responsive.I switched on the AC for 10-15 mins but believe me the engine didn't show any sign of loading and nor did the rpm meter showed any down fall.
I took my car to max 100km/h speed and it was very stable at this speed.The gear shifting is very smooth and breaks are responsive enough on this high speed
The 1.6 version comes loaded with Alloys, Tubeless tyres, central locking, rear wipers fog lamps, rear defogger which really justifies the price tag of Rs.4.60lkhs on road..Its undoubtly a true value for money car.
1st service is still 200km away but in the mean while i m getting a mileage of 11.50 km/lt.
Hi friends...its been a very long time that i am writing a review on my dear car i.e palio 1.6 stile....No car can beat the pleasure of driving this car,but one thing that can stop enjoying your drive is the pathetic sales and support of tata-fiat group...I gave my car for the 3rd free service 3days back with few problems:-
1.rear right door was making sum noise while opening.
2.the water from the a.c compartment was dropping on the clutch pedal.
3.the car was getting over heat very soon...i mean even if you drive for one km the temperature of the engine shoots up and jumps the half mark on the temperature dial.
When I reached the service station(vivek automobiles,sarita vihar)i was told that a switch which controls the temperature had stopped working and needs to be changed.I opted for extended warranty when i purchased this car but the service manager at service station doesn't know that whether the switch comes in warranty period or not so they have send a mail to the company and are still waiting for it so they haven't touched my car and nor did the do service of my car...more over till this moment they haven't called me once to tell the status.Its really pathetic from tata motors that they treat there customers in this way...
I will post my rest of the experience when i will get my car back from them.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The interiors are very badly screwed together. A new palio rattles more than even a swift which has clocked 40000Kms. Shame b cos despite being a fiat its poorly built.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engines good.Gearbox rubbery.The fan makes a noise that can be really disturbing. The car sounds like a truck when the fan is running.The aircon's performance is very inconsistent.
Ride Quality & Handling Its the cars party piece.Exceptional for a small car.
Final Words Its a flogged horse.Too outdated and crude for present day India. Would not recommend it to anybody The reliability is appalling. The car has done just 25000Kms and has broken down 6 times.1)@ 1000Kms Clutch failed-assembly had to be replaced 2) Ignition key failed-barrel had to be changed 3) Ignition key failed again- Barrel had to be changed 4)Ignition key again failed-the ring had to be changed 5) Ignition key failed-the entire assembly including the key had to be changed 6) water pump failed- had to be replaced
Areas of improvement Fiat needs to up its quality and service.I guess the trouble is because they have tied up with Tata.imagine guys who've worked on trucks working on your Fiat.it just doesn make sense,An exclusive service centre must be established for Fiat.

Exterior Good, conventional design.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good features like all power windows, back wiper, rear defogger, Grey & Beige interior.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Powerful engine,one can feel certain amount of masculinity while driving the car, Gear shifting not very smooth, average fuel economy, engine performance is very good.
Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is very good, a certain amount of solidness can be felt, good grip on high speed, pick up manoeveribility are good, firm brake.
Final Words Failed to understand why Fiat discontinued this car, infact it is a much better car than Punto almost in all aspects. One of the most powerful cars in its segment. Other cars like Maruti's Swift, Dzire, Tata's Vista, Manza, Chevrolet Sail & Sail UVA, Fiat's Punto, Linea etc. all are using this same diesel engine and are getting so much volumn of sales, but the original one gets vanished in the oblivion. Very sad!!!The only negative is excessive price of spare parts & lack of spare parts even with the Tata service centres (who are servicing Fiat presently).

If fitted with a suitable driver seat, the car is a pleasure even on long drives. The fit and finish of the machine and Mechanics is superb. But the same is not true for body, exterior and interior.
Fully loaded luxary features and placing/planning of their controls are nice. Charger point is a good utility for mobile, laptop and dvd etc. The car is very strong, robust and consequently quite safe. It feels good to carry legacy of FIAT logo in Formula-I Red color with body color RVMs and bumpers and hence the car stands out distinct in any crowd of its contemporaries. The company should fit LPG/CNG kit on request to make car more popular. This however may fizz out your enthu.. to some extent.
Feature list is quite long power window, central lock, rear wiper, defrost coil, AC & heater, sporty foot controls, fog lamp, wind screen washer, side impact beams, placings for speakers, summer sault rear seat, front seat adjustments.
Wide tubelesss tyres and alloy wheels take the perfomance to new height. One will never be at loss of basic power required in city or highway. To own such a comprehensive package at this price may not be possible in any other brand. I must say that the company is paying a heavy price of its initial marketing failure.

I have purchased the Palio SDX MULTIJET four weeks back and believe me guys this is the best you could get in a diseal version of any other other in this range or even higher class of diseal cars
The Engine is the Most amazing part of the car, I did open up on the highway and did clock 165 Kms/Hour with out any effort, The car behaved very well at high speeds , thats an advantage over other cars which is priced at 8 Lakh Plus.
I guess finally fiat is proved in India that it does own a brand like ferrari when you talk about engine power,
I hope and pray the service improves as its got TATA's service backup.

Final Words It was our dream car. The black Italian beauty Fiat Palio Stile SLX,make Nov 2007. We started searching to buy a new car from all available channels and finally we decided to go with Palio stile slx which is falling within our budget and taste. We compared with other models like Maruthi,Hyundai,Tata...etc. But finally this was the most attractive one. I have driven 32000 KM now no issues at all except very negligible repairs and still Fine and excellent to drive. So many times I touched speed of 145 KM/H in the Chennai Kolkatta National Highway and Hyderabad Bangalore highways. The mileage never went below 14. During my 5th service which is happened recently Feb second week 2012 I faced some issue with clutch and I informed the same thing to the authorized service partner in Pune( Now i am staying pune) to rectify. At that time SA told me that issue could be with Clutch plates and might be problem with Gear box etc etc.. without taking any test ride…. I left the car with them for 4 days and finally I got my vehicle delivered by charging some huge amount without resolving the main issue (Clutch) and also they told that they removed the air form Clutch master hydraulic and they guranteed drive upto 25 to 30 thousand KM more without any issues. If I want to replace the whole kit It costs around rs. 15000+ labour charges and also spares are not ready available. It was really surprise for me and they didn’t show any interest to rectify the issue. They were very busy with delivering the free servicing vehicles……They have very limited space in the garage for Fiat vehicles so they want to push out the vehicles as early as possible. But I am not fully convinced with their suggestions and I started searching for other options in pune. Luckily I got one, called Mirajkar Automobiles at dangi chock near aditya birla hospital, Chinchwad through one of my friend. I went there to get second opinion about the problem by struggling with double pressing of my car clutch all the way. He is really good technician, experienced, polite, gives you personal attention and charges are very less. He explained about the problem after taking test ride of my car and suggested to replace one small part. It was not all about the clutch plates and other things like what I heard earlier. It took 3 to 4 hrs to replace the part, and it cost me only Rs.2000. I felt very happy to find out that guy and Now a day’s spares are also easily available for Fiat vehicles.
Always think about taking second opinion, be patience, Explore the market and Enjoy with your dream car. Otherwise you will end up in soup.
Areas of improvement Fiat should increase their service stations and get engaged with quality service partners in all major cities in India. Then definitely you are going to be the toughest competitor in the Industry.

I researched this segment for nearly a month and compared just about all the diesel variants in it. From the Swift Vdi to the Getz CRDI i test drove all the cars but just got hooked by the Palio SDX.
It packs a mean punch on the road with some great handling because of its pedigree from the Fiat stables. The car does not make you feel that its a hatchback in space and power at any stage. I have been driving it on the pothole ridden Delhi roads for a while but have not felt that the car going bumpy. It sails through minor potholes and makes the bigger ones easy to handle.
In cost it is not cheap by any standard at INR 5.30 on road in delhi, but its much better value for money than the swift with the same engine etc. The economy till now has been 16 in city and i'm yet to try it out on the highway.
Some of the cons could be attributed to the finish of the product from the inside, but overall its a great package with dual tone dash board and beige interiors. A-One the Tata dealership in Delhi was upfront about everything on the car and did offer a decent discount as well. There customer service was also good and welcoming. The readily available colors are Black and Red but there is a waiting on White. Not of the waiting on the other colors.
I have yet to experience the service back-up on the product but being an existent TATA car owner I have seen their support on FIAT has been good.
