Aveo 1.4 LT- After 10000KM.

Hi,

I have been driving this car (Aveo 1.4LT – “Ivory Gold”) for last 8 months and covered 10500 km. I have taken my decision after a long research and just fall in love with Aveo in first test drive itself..

I am still love to drive my beauty every day.. J Its really  really really worth for the money.

Here is my total observation about this car.

 

 

Exterior and Interior (Features, Space & Comfort):

1. Great look and design. Very good finish and build quality. Dashboard and interior design is excellent and comparable with high end cars.
2. Driving pleasure is beyond words. Steering bit hard compare to Honda City.

 

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox & Ride Quality & Handling:

1. Very low cabin noise. So sure you enjoy every moment, especially in long drive.
2. Very good suspension (Chevy patented one) with good stability even in curves in high speed, really enjoy the floating like feeling. You can drive beyond 100KM/Hr speed on smooth curves with good confidence (you don’t feel like loosing control.). Only issue with this suspension, chance to hit on high bumps even though it has got high ground clearance. Solution- Just slow down before the high bump and drive over smooth and slowly. Avoid applying break while on bump, to avoid vehicle sit-down more and hit the underbody.
3. I have seen many posts complaining about gear shift. But I found it’s really smooth, like sports car gear (I have got 17 years driving experience and drove many variants including higher end cars). I would say almost no engine knocking; you can drive dead slow speed in top gear. So no worry about immediate gear down during slow down.
4. Powerful AC. Even in hot summer, I used to keep the cooling adjustment in middle, which is enough for even rear seat passenger. (But I have suspected AC performance is coming down after 2-3 hours continues working. May be this needs to get checked)
5. Fuel efficiency – the eagerly looking point!! I am getting 12KM in Bangalore city in busy traffic, off course with AC (calculated after running 300km). And 16KM in highways. The mileage completly depends on driving. Once I have got 17.9 (not an error- I am sure) early morning driving with no AC, 5 people with heavy luggage. I drove consistently not going more than 2500 RPM (80km/hr). Last time I went to Kerala and drove up to 170 km/hr speed (for a test) and average 100 - 120 km/hr. In that trip I have got only 14.6km/liter mileage. So, decide if you want thrill or mileage..

 

Areas of improvement :

1. Initial pickup (0 to 100) is not that good, as it’s a 1.4 litter, 90BHP engine (but for me it’s not a big concern as I was able to go up to 170 and still power left. It would have been good to have more than 100bhp for this car)
2. Dashboard reflection on wind shield makes annoying by obstructing vision, while driving in sunny. The beige color part of the dashboard causes this. Easy solution is cover that beige dashboard part with black dash mat.. Mainly required while long drive, especially at noon, while passing under tree shades gives a blinking feeling.
3. Aveo has got hydraulic power steering, bit harder. So its not that smooth as some other electronic power steering cars like City.
4. Dashboard storage space is not enough. This could have design to have more spacious, by providing additional storage on Dash.
5. Rear seat not foldable.
6. Service – looks GM is improving in that side.
