I bought a Fiat Linea Emotion pack diesel on Mar 1st at Autofin , Secbad. I am having a very good time and completed 1000 kms recently. Car looks more of higher segment car than where it exactly placed.

Fiat is given atmost attention to every minute detail of the car and even wider tires provide give a good grip and ride quality compared to competitors who provide narrow tires that provide more milleage. I have got a milleage 14kpl in city and 18kpl on hightway at crusing speed of 100 kmh. Blue and me technology is very convenient to use while driving in traffic and Ipod USB integration with audio system is pretty good. Ride and handling department along with great ABS brakes wins heart of the people that cannot met by any of competitors even skoda octavia. Power from the engine is linearly delivered, i just find some drag in delivering power below 1500 rpm that can be avoided by shifting to lower gear. I didnt find it underpowered in any angle as there are lot of concerns in this regards , the only difference there is not that rapid surge of power as u feel in verna. Fiat has not compromised on build quality to increase milleage of the car while all the other competitors pretty much do it.Car is very stable at high speeds and cruises without much effort. Doors are pretty heavy that indicates the good build quality of the car.Seats are very comfortable, rear seats are highly placed which provide good comfort for rear passengers. Boot is pretty big enough to stuff everything inside.45% of spares are now manufactured in India which would scale up to 90% by year end that would ensure service is not a problem in the car. Some of the problems i noticed in the car which if resolved will make it most deserving car in mid segment. Car turning radius is 5.55m which is pretty long for such size. Ground clearance should have been better. They should have provided a reverse screen inside the car as its hard to perform it since rearview is limited. Headroom is limited in the rear for people above 6ft. Engine noise is more audible inside the cabin at high rpms.Storage space inside the car is not good enough to keep water bottles. Anyway i am pretty happy with the car and enjoying every moment of it.
Amazing design, good interiors, fuel economy, drive and handling, safety, build qualityrear head room, engine noise at high revs, ground clearance, rear parking sensors

I was looking to buy a diesel sedan and my dad had narrowed to Verna in Nov 2008. I was not keen on Verna because I felt it was not a value for money car and dint want to go for a Hyundai car paying 10 lac. I delayed my buy and was looking for options and hoping some manufacturer will come up with a car for this segment which people were craving for.

Finally the news of Linea came out and I took dad to test drive Verna and Linea the same day. I just fell in love with the first look of the Linea. My dad was no different. We immediately paid the advance and I was told I will be the first few owners of this car :)

Got the delivery on 13th the Friday of Feb 2009. Unlucky for some but proved lucky for me :)

Till about 6 months I was been looked upon where ever i went, people at the signal, at home, relatives, friends, all were eager to know more about the car. Indians are conservative and buy only after someone tells them to buy (famous word of mouth) or has been in the market and proved itself.

I enjoyed the attention, but at the same time a thought was running in my background, what if I will remain the only few who own this car :)

Fortunately the great car and value for money Linea is, it did not break my belief. It sold well and today quite a few of my friends are proud owners.

Exterior The major USP of the car is its classy look. Unlike others hatch back converted sedan which look ugly and has the "overnight-butt-attached" feel, Linea truely looks like a sedan and no trace of any hatch back with its classy and elegant lines.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Descent usage of plastic and well laid out dash gives an upper class feel. I own a Toyota Innova, at first I rated Innova very high and Linea dint really overtake those feelings. But the beauty of Linea is that, it grows on you day by day. Soon after a year of driving i prefer the Linea for the sheer joy and comfort. I still love the innova though.

Quite spacious inside, I am 6' 2" and still can drive with relavent comfort with a rear passengar. When i am driving alone, I push back the driving seat completely back though.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The only negative aspect that was in my mind was the compromise I was making on the engine CC. Just 1.3L sounded a compromise which I had to make to give way for its gorgeous looks. But I am not disappointed at all, though being small in size it has enough power to keep it going. On highways its is very stable and i have clocked 160+. It does 140 quite effortlessly, getting to 160 take a little time.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is dampened by the low ground clearance, on bad roads and bumps you have to literllay slow down to under 10 kmph. This would be the BIGGEST negative of the car. But the low ground clearance means less body roll and great road grip. This is what makes highway driving a pleasent one, I just zip past other cars with great confidence.

Final Words Buy one if you are looking for a genuine diesel sedan!

Exterior Best in class. Even can give tough competition to D segment cars.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Excellent features, enough leg room, rear space may sound to be less if front seat is taken full back.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Fabulous engine, Average FE, below avg gearbox. Gearbox feels rubbery and throw is bit long.

Ride Quality & Handling Speechless. It handles potholes so nicely. Excellent ride. At higher speed it remains very stable.

Final Words Excellent car. Please go and buy it if you want to buy a car in this segment. This can give tough competition to the biggies like Honda city if Fiat can focus on their weaknesses and that is Marketing and Service after sales.

Areas of improvement Gear box. Fiat should focus on improving Service after sales and also do aggressive marketing. Many people are not aware of this new launch. I saw only one ad in paper on 9th Oct and after that no advertisement. This is really bad. They should know how they should market this awesome product.

Exterior Really good. Though I think the logo might get stolen as in all the lineas. Wonder what these thieves do with the stolen logos. Maybe they sell it back to the company.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very comfortable. Good air conditioning. Bad music system provided though.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Very good pick up. Very quiet even at high speeds.

Ride Quality & Handling Smooth handling. Good ground clearance.

Final Words Just bought a linea petrol emotion 2 weeks back. Great car with absolutely no problems, including the low ground clearance one which is mentioned in all the reviews. Bought it after reading a lot of reviews which are mostly negative. It’s a good car, worth the buy. The ground clearance is good enough even when there are 5 people sitting inside. Pick up is fantastic and it can zip around like a santro which was my earlier car.

      VK

Areas of improvement Fuel Economy which is not very bad but not very good either.

Good features, speed, handling, comfort.Fuel Economy, Company fitted music system.

I don't agree with your comments on fiat Linea. I own this car for last two years. Concorde motors (Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad) really do good servicing of vechile. My car delivery 16 km/l in city roads and 20 to 21 on high ways. Fait engines are best.Your dealer is fault . My advise would better get in touch with fiat directly. I have recommend this car to all my friends their happy with performance.

It is definitely a commendable job and I would totally disagree if anyone complains about poor after sales service. Only problem is the immediate availability of some spare parts but then you do get it in some time. Your need to visit service center itself is hardly once a year. Oil change is only once in 15000 kms. Linea is pretty smooth with great handling even on bad roads. It is such a pleasure to drive on highways and you won’t even realize the speed even at 120+. It also feels very safe to drive at such high speeds; you have ABS, air bags and electronic brake stabilization. It is quite spacious and comfortable with very good features.

      Superb styleLow ground clearance

After I saw the advt. today in TOI.. I made my mind to go have a look at this car. Trust me it was not waste of time..

I have seen Honda Civic, Corolla, Camry, Nissan Altima etc... I was wondering how can i afford this cars features, cool cools and driving comfort in India.. Here is the car which I feel can offer you all this that too at a very good price tag.. Thats osam..

I was surprized as well as very happy to see that this car has it all and can be a great family car as well as good for others too...

I took test drive of Emotion Top End Model ... I was satisfied and feel that if people will look at this car and its overall package they will book it for sure..

I am on for Fiat Linea Emotion guys.... Lets not look at Fiat as that old Pamini car .. Have a look at this Line and I am sure you will change your thoughts forever..

      Cheers

Buoyed by the initial customer response to its midsize sedan Fiat Linea, Fiat India Automobiles Pvt. Ltd is set to launch two more models this year and achieve cash break-even by 2011-12, president and chief executive officer Rajeev Kapoor said.

The company, a 50:50 joint venture between Italian automaker Fiat SpA and Tata Motors Ltd, is readying to launch the Grande Punto, a compact car, in the third quarter of the fiscal year. The second model will be Tata Motors’ new three-box offering, code-named X1.

Together with the Linea, the products would be instrumental in steering the joint venture into profitability, said Kapoor, adding that the planned launch of the Fiat Bravo was being delayed because of the economic slowdown.

Driving profits: Fiat India Automobiles president and chief executive Rajeev Kapoor. Ashesh Shah / Mint
Driving profits: Fiat India Automobiles president and chief executive Rajeev Kapoor.

As part of the joint venture agreement, signed in December 2007, Fiat and Tata Motors had set aside an investment of Rs 4,000 crore for a new facility in Ranjangaon, near Pune, to make Fiat and Tata cars and engines.

The Ranjangaon unit, which has the capacity to make 160,000 cars and 300,000 engines, is producing the Fiat Palio, Stile and Linea models and select Tata Indica models. The X1, which would compete with Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s Dzire, would be the first so-called new generation car from Tata Motors that would be manufactured in the facility.

Sales volumes would be pivotal for the success of the venture.
Tata’s X1, the new Tata Indigo that would also come off the same platform and Fiat’s new models could bring substantial volumes, helping the company reach break-even, says Neeraj Bandhu, director of the India office at automotive forecaster CSM Worldwide.

“Though the success of the new models from Tata Motors would depend on the powertrain (engine) options that are offered and other factors, going by the good past record of the Indigo, if the trend continues with the newer volumes, the target is achievable,” Bandhu said.

He is, however, cautious on the Grande Punto’s prospects. “None of the bigger hatchbacks—be it the Skoda Fabia or the Hyundai i20 that are priced in the Rs5-7 lakh range—has been too much of a success in the Indian market,” he said, adding that pricing will be key to the success of the car.

The compact car, or hatchback, segment, which made up more than 75% of the 1.2 million cars sold in India in fiscal 2009, may see many more launches in the coming months, among them the Maruti Suzuki Ritz and Honda Jazz.

“Typically a JV (joint venture) of this magnitude takes four to five years to break even,” said Mahantesh Sabarad, an auto analyst with Centrum Broking Pvt. Ltd. He, however, added that just two to three products would not help; Fiat needs multiple offerings across segments.

Fiat’s Ranjangaon manufacturing facility is benchmarked against the global car manufacturer’s units in Turkey and Brazil. Kapoor says it compares well as the lowest-cost manufacturer, and Fiat will eventually source right-hand drive Linea cars from here for the UK and Australia.

“We have a cost advantage of 14-17% over Brazil and Turkey due to localisation of parts and labour costs,” he said. Fiat sold 4,600 units of the Linea in January-March. While saying his firm was not surprised by the response, Kapoor admitted that it was confounded by the demand for the top-end variant of the car which accounted for almost 80% of total sales. However he expects the ratio to dip to 25% once demand stabilizes.

Sabarad of Centrum attributes the initial success of the Linea to Fiat’s strategy of pricing and styling. “The company decided to deliberately have a predatory pricing strategy for its new model,” he said. “To my mind the price will keep moving up; getting the same volume then would not be possible.”

Fiat has been known in India more for the Premier Padmini, based on the Fiat 1100, that the Doshis of Premier Automobiles Ltd manufactured for four decades starting in the 1950s. In Mumbai, black-and-yellow Premier Padminis are still the most popular taxis.

Fiat, which has had a chequered history in India, had almost decided to quit the market but for Fiat chief executive officer Sergio Marchionne and Tata group chairman Ratan Tata coming together in 2005, Kapoor said.

“Such was the level of confidence among both the partners that investments began at least two years before even a formal agreement was signed,” he said.

Bought a Emotion pk 1.4 Petrol yesterday . Fanatastic looks - Have driven i only 50 kms so far- too early to comment on fuel consumption- though I see the fuel indicator dipping rapidly.A little sluggish; but you get over it . Handles well.

Haven't got used to the My Car features of reading consumption etc. Some tips though. Check the fuel lid. The plastics are cheap and flimsy inside. I opened my fuel lid first time i filled up and the lid just wouldn't snap back - Saw the plastic catch inside was broken. Dealer couldn't replace it then. Asked me to wait for a couple of days ( Pandit Auto Pune).

Second if you guys are going in for the Pk version with Blue and Me - make sure the dealer gives you a thorough run through. Some mobile phones aren't fully compatible for downloading the phone book . Also if you have a dual sim handset like mine- It gets confused . The manual has a list of mobile phones fully compatible- check it out .

But good experience overall . The sales staff was good . Let's see the after sales service. Will keep you posted

Lovely looks-; Loaded with featuresFuel consumption could have been better; poor plastics

      Exterior Nice look!

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good seats and the car is silent. Lots of space. Found two plastic elements of the dashboard which was poorly constructed but can be acceptable since the price of the car is competitive.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Diesel engine is one of the best features of the car, no oil consumption and diesel consumption is very low.

Ride Quality & Handling Fine driving experience especially for long journeys. Side mirrors are very good but sometimes it is tricky to estimate the car size -> for instance in the case of parking.

Final Words Good value for money, it looks like Fiat has made very good efforts with this car. I would give my recommodation for those people who need space, drives a lot and do not want to pay extra for the brand. As a car owner the selection criterias of the car was easy maintenance and robust engine. According to Autobild magazine, similar Fiat's diesel engine was opened after 100 000km driving and got excellent statements from the engineurs which supports the expectations of quality.

Areas of improvement Limited product ranges available. 90hp diesel engine is surprising strong, but it would be nice if there is more options available.

driving, cabin & luggage space, price, fuel consumption, maintenancesome plastic elements inside the car were poorly manufactured

      Hello friends,

first i have to thank carwale.com for their fantastic site. secondly to my carwale friends who has written meaningfull reviews on cars. I bought my Linea Dynamic Petrol on 27th of July 2010. I have driven 1500 km till date. and atleast got 150000 or more popped out eyeballs. each and everybody who saw my car, appriciated it's look and design. many unknown people has come to me to express their admiration. fantastic design. great look. has the waw effect.

Dynamic has very basic feature. manual HVAC is fantastic. follow me home, multi display, menu setting etc are good and helpful features. in this price range these are very good. dual tone interior is sober and feels like higher class. seats are ergonomical. legroom and head room is comfortable. driver seat hight adjust could be better. tilt steering is helpful. clutch peddal could be lower. with high clutch peddal city drive is bit strainous. rear seat hand rest is one added advantage. two glove boxes are usefull. huge boot space one would love to have.

Engine Performance Engine Performance is good. i drove santro for last 4 years so i am not the person to talk about power but i like the way it is. it's nither a cheetah/royal bengal tiger, nor a poor sloth. it's in between. it's powerful from 4th gear and above. 3rd also prvide good strength. yesterday i drove 500km highway. fantastic performance. undoubtedly superb ride we had. Fuel Economy is good. we got 14.4 per lt on highway and subarb roads with ac on. in kolkata i get 9.5 with ac on. it's only 15 day old. first service is not done yet. hope to get better result after. Gearbox is smooth and gentle.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride Quality & Handling is fantastic. highly comfortable ride and it's handling is perfect also. one will not feel that it's a big and heavy car. sharp turns in high speed is safe also. Must buy that car. one will surely love it. others also.

Areas Of Improvement Clutch pedal hight is higher. Driver seat height adjust could be improved.

Amaizing style, design, appearance, wide tyre, AC, space, comfort, handling...nothing much. road clearance.
