Introduction
Indian roads have witnessed a unique culture of excessive honking, a practice that has become almost synonymous with driving in the country. This constant honking, often used as a form of communication or even a display of impatience, also leads to premature wear and tear of the vehicle's original horn. For motorists seeking a more durable and efficient horn, the aftermarket market has been flooded with options, especially the loud and attention-grabbing trumpet horns.
However, for those who prefer to adhere to the permissible noise regulations and maintain the OEM quality of their vehicles, Uno Minda has introduced its range of D90 horns. One such model, the D90 835442 dual horn, has found its way into our hands for testing. In this review, we will delve into the specifications and features of this horn, and in the subsequent report, we will share our firsthand experience after installing it in a vehicle.
What’s in the box?
Upon opening the package, we found two identical disc horns, each measuring 90mm in diameter. These horns were accompanied by a set of necessary connectors and wires, clear installation diagram, and detailed instructions to guide the user through the process. The D90 is designed to operate on a 12-volt power supply, producing a sound output that ranges between 105 and 110 decibels. This sound level falls within the Indian RTO guidelines, ensuring compliance with noise regulations.
The durability of the horn has also been taken into consideration by constructing it with 100 per cent waterproof materials. Additionally, the horn features black zinc-nickel plating, which promises to provide excellent rust protection, ensuring its longevity even in varied conditions. It has also stated to have undergone rigorous testing, completing over three lakh test cycles.
Compatibility and Availability
Uno Minda claims that the D90 dual horn is compatible with a wide range of Maruti Suzuki and Tata passenger cars and that they guarantee OEM-quality sound and reliability. This should ensure broad compatibility with a significant number of motorists who can benefit from it. Priced at a reasonable Rs. 675, this dual horn comes with a two-year warranty and can be bought from Uno Minda’s official website, Amazon, or Boodmo.
What’s next?
To verify Uno Minda's claim and assess the installation process, we will be installing the D90 dual horn in a compatible vehicle. In the subsequent report, we will provide a detailed account of the installation process, including any challenges or modifications encountered. Additionally, we will compare the sound produced by the D90 with that of the original horn, highlighting any noticeable differences.
Once the installation is complete, we will put the D90 to the test in real-world driving conditions. This will involve evaluating its performance, durability, and overall effectiveness in various scenarios.
