At a crossing on one Monday around one and a half month back, i heard someone saying 'how is the car, Sir'. while having overstepped the crossings at Red Light, i could hardly understand the question when it was repeated. i replied that car was good. he told me he was going to book a 'car'. before leaving the crossing i said him that 'Spark' and 'Santrao' both were good cars. later i contemplated why i said him so that 'Santro' was equally a good car. what i reckoned to me is now sharing with all of you. at first sight, Spark is a great car with nice look, brand name and good interiors. you become more pleased on a test drive with its maneuverability in the city as well as on highway, noiseless engine etc. but after spending some time (1) you find it a little difficult to see your left side over the console positioned at centre if your below 5’ 8’’ and in case you are above 6’ then you won’t find enough head room there. (2) in city; driving along with complete family, you need more gear shifting while making the headway through traffic and at overbridges, this matter becomes more graver in case the AC is on. (3) three persons can not be accommodated on the back seat easily leaving families having five members without any solution. lastly, (4) even after having been introduced recently by a renowned company, the problem of driving in hot weather of India has not been resolved as cooling is inadequate. Apart of these second & fifth gear problem can also be added. you will not find the first three shortcomings in the ‘Santro’ however, response on forth problem may be differ person to person. so what are the advantages in bringing the ‘Spark’. It is undoubtedly a nice car having fresh look, swelled dashboard that gives you a royal feeling (if compared with its contemporaries), bolster performance at Highways (like unleash the power within), a great riding maneuverability in city and at highways (too good), a complete noiseless engine which is capable enough to give you an unbelievable smooth & quiet ride and one last quality, however less understood so far, of rolling on which yet to be leveraged (smart guys drive in city conditions in Forth gear without pressing clutch until they meet with a stalemate). Despite of all its shortcomings i mentioned at top, i like this car too much. sometimes i lack the power in third gear but i can give it away as i personally like riding performance which ‘Spark’ gives me in plenty and at highways it is unbelievable. its one ride of highway gives you a lasting memories. its dashboard is quite large and gives you a feeling as if you are sitting in a cockpit. however, i always wish the AC could have been more powerful which i lack every time i sit in the car with my family. so both cars are good. ‘Santro’ still satisfies the needs of customers in practical sense and ‘Spark’ gives you a different paradigm of driving. it depends on your requirement from a car. |
