I test drove, Ford Endevour, Mitsubishi Pajero and Cheverlot Captiva ( Honda CRV dealer could not provide a test drive even after requesting few times). The height of the driver seats and leg room was the deciding factor against Ford endevour ( I am not looking for fuel economy if somebody looking fuel economy then they should not go for any of the SUVs). The factor went against Pajero was the outdated model and the old body shape. Pajero is bigger than Captiva still feels and body feels very light/flimsy on the road.
Captiva the design is very good, nice interiors, very good leg room for the front seats and the middle seats. The rear seats are not comfortable at all and better not to use and use it as a luggage space only. The driving comfort is very good, nice view from the drivers seat except for rear side. You have to use the side mirrors to view the vehicles coming from behind rather than the centre mirror. The airconditoner works really good, seats are not bad but as not plush as the ones you find outside India but good compared to the other models. If you are cruising on highway it is good, in town the first and second gear the power is really good, but when you are on third gear inside the city, the engine clutters and there is no much power.
Pros
Bold look and good interiors
Cons
Rear seats and rear view from the rear view mirror.
Don't ask about fuel economy if you are planning to buy a SUV, enjoy your driving ( Hope you are driving the vehicle not your driver)
Below comments are after using 3 weeks,
I drove around 1000 Kms in first 3 weeks, the mileage in what I get in Mumbai city is around 10 Kms per Litre.
The aircondition is very good, for the front seats and middle row, still dont know how it will be in the last row because there is no seperate vent for the middle and last row.
Below are the comments after using almost 5 months and driving more than 7000 kms
We had some real good drive from Mumbai to Kerala via Goa and while coming back took the route of satymanaglam forest - Bangalore and then Kolhapur and then Mumbai. The drive was excellent and we never faced any kind of problem with vehicle ( Captiva). The roads were excellent and there were few bad patches. Total distance we covered in this trip was around 5500 kms, The average mileage on long distance was around 12 Kms. Only problem we faced was with the Music system, the CD player stopped working by the end of the journey, but got fixed when i came back to Mumbai thanks to Ashtavinayak Auto ( Dealer for Chevy). The drive was really comfortable, as per my family travelling in the middle seat also was comfortable, the rear seats were not used and used it as luggage space only. The vehilce is having real good road grip, touched the maximum speed of 180 kms while we were on Bangalore - Kolhapur strech.
We used the vehilce is real village roads in kerala where there is no tarmac and the performance was good.
I bought this car through Ashtavinayak Automobiles and they are providing excellent after sales service.
Any new car buyers and going for loan be carefull about the direct sales agents of banks, they will quote you more interest and also price of the car more than the dealers, Go directly to the dealers for buying the car and also go directly to the bank to get loan rather than going through the Direct sales agent. For saving almost 2 lacs - thanks to HDFC and Ashtavinayak. Soon shall reveal the name of the direct sales agent who tried to cheat me.
Elegant Style, Very good pick up, Good view from the driver's seat, very good interiorsLast row seats are very congested, unable to view properly through rear view mirrorExterior/Styles

I bought my chevrolet captiva car on 2008 from Geeyem motors, Cochin. The cars engine was stucked in 55000 km and they replaced engine & pump after my several emails and after getting the notice from my lawyer. Even they charged rs.25000 from me.
After that the repalced second engine is stucked now in 115000km. So the second engine run for 60000 km and now they are forcing us to pay the full amount of engine overhaul charges around 2 lakhs. For replacing I have to 4 lakhs.
How can I change or overhaul engine in every 55000 or 60000 km for 20 lakh worth costly car? I never suggest the captiva vehicle, even getting very bad services from Geeyem motors, Cochin. Now I do not have the car for 2 months.
How can I trust on Chevrolet vehicles ? If there is any logic for changing the engine in every 50 to 60 thousand kilometer?

Exterior The Captiva has a very nice sporty look. The front as well as the back looks perfectly thought off. One can add sporty stickers if they do not like the single colour look. Size is also perfect and makes it easy to park in Malls or congested places.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very nice interiors. The foldings seats are fantastic. Can give ample space to store almost anything.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The car is very smooth. Can easily revv to 170 kmph on the highway. Only issue is the 1920 CC engine which makes it a little wanting while overtaking and on inclines. The RAW power feel is missing. Fuel economy is good. Gives 11 km/l in city conditions with AC. Gives more in non AC conditions.
Gearbox is good and smooth.
Ride Quality & Handling Good handling. Smooth ride.
Final Words Extremely good buy - in the current SUV market in this range. Competition flaws as below:
Toyota Fortunner - Interiors are tacky. Else everything is good,
Mitsubishi Pajero - Very old technology. Interiors tacky,
Mitsubishi Outlander - Petrol Automatic - Fuel economy will kill you,
Honda CRV - Petrol on a SUV.... Same issue as above,
Ford Endeavor - Good heavy feel but vehicle too long.
Areas of improvement They should have a 3 Litre engine.
The looks and the interiorThe low power - good for city driving. Is an issue while overtaking and on inclinesExterior/Styles

Exterior style is Fair, though the body sheet used is not of proper gauage, Bonnet gets dented while closing and that is commonly opened when you visit a Mall or a Hotel.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Space is good, but the air conditioner is not good. AC vents are not provided for rear seats. Passengers seated always request you increase the A/c speed even if it is running at full. Vehicle is comfortable but suspension is very costly. Rear Shock Absorbers cost 54K and Front suspension is also costly.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox My Car's Engine is being overhauled at 1 Lac Km and is costing me 4.5 L INR. No other car Manufacturer's engine is overhauled at this Low a milage. Brake pads are costly. For that matter all spares are costly. Electronics are not of good quality. My Car had a problem with reverse parking lights and could never be rectified. Every time I am charged for the same but after a week or 10 days they again start giving problem. This problem is never faced even in M800.
Ride Quality & Handling Ok. Steering is very light.
Final Words Don't even think of buying one, take my opinion - arvindindia@hotmail.com.
Areas of improvement Attitute towards Servicing.

Exterior
Good and sporty, has the muscle of 4wd
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
Decent,however could have been better.
The music player is old and outdated.
Only a single Cd player comes fitted.
NO usb connection
The 3rd row seating is not recommended for Adults specially on drives over 100 km.
The 3rd row seating is far more comforatable than Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero sport.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
Good Engine Performace and great pick up ,Fuel economy is great in city as well.
Clutch is a bit hard
Gear box is soft and easy
Ride Quality & Handling
Good and Steardy even at high speeds to 130-150 km/hour.
Suspension is quite nice
Ride quality is great
Handling on high speeds is exceptional
Final Words
An excpectional suv/4wd for family
Areas of improvement
Interiors should be worked upon
Air vents at the back
Led and Automatic lights should be introduced.
Sunroof for all models should be there
Self start button missing
Cd changer and usb plug in should be there
Dual cabin temperature
Foot resting peddle is missing.
Turbo,intial pickup,Turning radius,soft steering,brakes,high visibility,cooling,fuel economyHard clutch,engine noise after 50000 kms,expensive service,no vents at the back

The Exterior
Classy. Just an awesome look. I really think mine is better looking than all the Captiva's I see. Sleek, but has a look of power which does not comprimise the beauty. Looks small, but the closer you get it appears to be huge. Mirrors the style of the Cadillac and Range Rover on the side. Black has to be the Prime Color that gives it a well defined muscle.
Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)
I am very comfortable and the leather interior gives a look of expensive as it does the driver. I have all the bells and whistles which gives the statement that this is not just another Chevrolet.
Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox
I an okay with the Performance. When I need to move...it gets me there in a hurry. I did not want a Vet...or Camaro.
Ride Quality & Handling
It handles well. Not very heavy in my opinion which causes me to drive carefully but it feels like Rack and Pinion. At night...I fell like I am driving the BMW 6X...Night Rider.
Final Words
Recommend it. And this is not my first SUV.
Areas of improvement
You might as well place the Rear Camera...you have given it everything else
Since I have owned several SUV's I consider the fuel economy great.I really cannot find anything I don't like.
