Volvo S60 Polestar: Competition check

The who’s who of the automotive geek world are coming to India and the latest star to arrive on the Indian shores is Volvo’s performance arm – the Polestar. The first car from the famed tuning house on sale in India is the S60 Polestar and for a price tag of Rs 52.5 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. It seems to be a great offer for the enthusiasts, especially when you factor in the competition. 

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG or the Audi S4 are practically soul-brothers for the S60 Polestar. The CLA 45 AMG gets a 2.0-litre 350+ bhp turbocharged petrol engine with a dual clutch gearbox and an all-wheel drivetrain, just like the Volvo S60 Polestar. Both are four-door sedans but the Volvo has a roomier cabin. While the CLA has a fluid teardrop design with evocative lines, the Volvo S60 is rather undramatic with its rather classic sedan lines. But if you get one in the Polestar blue, you might have to pray in order to go unnoticed. Sadly, the Audi S4 is not sold in India any more.

Apart from the 240bhp Jaguar XE, none of the luxury sedans like the BMW 3 Series or the Audi A4 come in with real performance. Mercedes has the C43 AMG but at more than Rs 75 lakh, ex-showroom, it becomes too expensive. So If you are looking for a performance luxury sedan that can double up as your daily driver and seat five comfortably, the Volvo S60 Polestar turns out to be your only option.
