Being stuck in traffic for an hour or two is no big news for Mumbaikars. To address traffic vows and look for alternative options, the Bombay High Court has suggested the Maharashtra government to restrict number of cars per family. Additionally, the court has also encouraged the government to consider promoting inland water transport to help reduce vehicle congestion on city roads.
The Bombay High court has also pointed out that large number of vehicles enter the city everyday and due to lack of proper parking facilities there has been a steep rise in unauthorised parking which adds to the traffic congestion. Speaking about the issue the court said, “There was a time about a decade ago when one could commute between Dadar and south Mumbai in just 20 minutes. Doing so is unimaginable now. It takes three hours to travel from Juhu to the airport.”
The Maharashtra Government has been given four weeks before scheduling for the next hearing. It is to be seen if the new regulations will be enforced soon, more details regarding the same will be known in the coming days.
