- This is the China-specific new-gen Skoda Rapid.
- It has taken design inspiration from the Skoda Scala.
- The India-spec model will be based on the MQB A0-IN platform.
The next-generation Skoda Rapid has been spotted completely undisguised in China. The new Rapid will be based on the MQB platform and will be longer and wider than the outgoing model.
The design of the new Rapid seems to have been inspired by the Skoda Scala hatchback, which made its official debut earlier this year. It features new LED headlights and an angular grille upfront, while the rear gets boomerang-shaped taillights. While the interiors aren't visible in these images, it's safe to assume that the new Rapid will get all-new cabin layout.
The new Skoda Rapid will eventually make its way into the domestic market. However, this particular version is China-specific, and the India-spec Rapid will be based on the heavily localized MQB A0-IN platform. The same architecture will underpin a number of upcoming Skoda-Volkswagen cars in India.
The India-spec Skoda Rapid will reportedly be a petrol-only model. It will compete against the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
