Scoop: Fiat to bring back the original Punto

Fiat India will re-introduce their Punto hatchback next month and call it the Punto Pure. The marketing outreach will be an attempt to introduce an affordable version of the brand Punto after the launch of the Punto Evo.

The Fiat Punto is known for its sturdy build quality and superb handling. The classic Italian design is pleasing as against the current generation of aggressive looks. The Fiat Punto was sold with two engine options – the 1.3-litre Multijet turbocharged diesel engine and the 1.4 FIRE naturally aspirated petrol engine. Both the engines were mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Punto Pure will be available in three trims – Active, Dynamic and Emotion with the Emotion being the top-spec variant. If you are lucky, you may also be able to land yourself the original Punto Sport with the 90bhp setup of the diesel Multijet engine. We expect Fiat to come out with a very tempting price tag and overall package like the Fiat Linea Classic.

The Fiat Punto is a premium hatchback and competes with the likes of the Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Baleno. Though the car is a generation older, if the pricing is right, it may still turn out to be a good value for money car provided you have an authorised service centre nearby.

UPDATE: When originally published, this article carried a line  - 'The marketing outreach will be an attempt to clear the stocks of the old Punto that have remained unsold after the launch of the Punto Evo.’ This information is incorrect and has been retracted. We regret any inconvenience this might have caused Fiat Chrysler India or our readers.
