The Renault Kwid is one of the most awaited cars in the next few months. Now, there is good news for those queuing up for the compact hatchback. The upcoming Renault Kwid, due for a global launch next month, has already started arriving at a few dealership stockyards in India. The bookings for the car have already begun with the token amount ranging between Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000.
This entry-level hatchback from Renault shows promise as a bold and aggressive vehicle. Despite being a compact-sized car, it packs in the brawn thanks to the body cladding and bulky wheel arches. Bolstering this image further is the impressive fascia sporting a black grille and the headlamps inspired from Renault’s larger SUVs. The exterior of the Kwid clearly indicates the influence of Renault’s global design language. In fact, the compact hatchback is based on the modular CMF-A platform making it the first car from the Renault stable to use it.
The impressive bits on the exterior are well complemented by the features in the cabin. The equipment and feature list in the Renault Kwid is something that no other car gets from the company's car line-up as of now. Many features like a seven-inch infotainment system and sat-nav are a segment first. The car gets a digital instrument cluster as standard feature, but airbags are optional.
The Kwid is powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 54bhp of power and 75Nm of torque. This mill comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The car weighs only 660kg and thanks to this light-weight construction, Renault has been able to get a fuel efficiency of 25.1kmpl from this car.
With the launch of the Kwid in October, Indian consumers will have another option to look at apart from the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. Renault is expected to price the Kwid in the range of Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4.2 lakh in India.
