Mahindra launched the facelifted Scorpio this September but an automatic variant of the vehicle is still due for a launch. CarWale reader Ameya Jadhav spotted a test mule of the same, taking rounds in Nashik city, hinting that the manufacturer might launch the model soon.
The test vehicle with the 'On Test' stickers does not get any changes to the exterior apart from the 'Automatic' badging on the side. The vehicle sported a Vlx badge at the back which was used on the previous models of the Scorpio. The current line-up of the refreshed Scorpio includes variants like S2, S4, S6, S6+, S8 and S10. However, this automatic version is expected to be available only in the top-end versions.
All the models, except for the base variant are powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk engine that produces 120bhp of power and 280Nm of torque. The base variant is powered by the 75bhp 2.5-litre four-cylinder m2DiCr diesel motor which is not likely to come paired to the automatic gearbox.
The new Scorpio has earned itself a tremendous response in the Indian market ever since its launch. The only thing that some followers thought was missing was the automatic version and now, the company will offer the same in the coming months. This automatic Scorpio should further increase the demand of the Scorpio as its immediate competitor, the Tata Safari Storme, does not get an automatic transmission.
