The next generation Chevrolet Spark has been spotted with camouflage during cold weather testing. The 2015 Spark is expected to use the chassis from the rumored four-door, four-seater car from Opel.
Not many details about the car are available, though from the pictures we can make out a rearward sloping roofline and a high sweeping beltline. The rear door handles have been now repositioned to a more conventional spot on the door, unlike in the current car, which have them behind the rear window.
The current generation Spark made its debut five years ago and is Chevrolet’s best-selling vehicle in Europe. Being sold in many parts of the world since 2009 either as Spark, Aveo or Beat, it was revealed last year that Chevrolet as been working on the replacement. A mid-2015 debut was announced with the redesigned version of the Sonic being pushed back to 2016. The new Cruze had originally been scheduled to debut in late 2014, but it also has been postponed to December 2015.
Chevrolet also sells Spark electric vehicles in California and Oregon since June 2013. Made in South Korea, the Spark EV sells at a base price of USD 26,685 (Rs 16.4 lakh). The car has an electric motor which delivers 140bhp with a battery that provides 130 km single-charge range.
The current generation Spark is sold in India as the Chevrolet Beat and is available either with a 1.2-litre petrol or a 1.0-litre diesel engine, with the petrol also getting the option of an LPG kit. The petrol pumps out 80bhp and 104Nm of torque and the three-cylinder diesel produces 58bhp and 150Nm of torque, both mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. With an international launch in mid-2015, we can expect it to arrive in India by the second half.
