Nissan X-Trail and 370Z discontinued in India

Nissan has bought the curtains down on the X-Trail and the 370Z in India; both cars were imported as Completely Built Units (CBU). The X-Trail, launched in 2004, was the first Nissan car to be sold in India. Nissan has also stated that it will continue to sell the Teana sedan, which is also a CBU.

The Nissan X-Trail was the first SUV to be available with a six-speed manual transmission in India. The vehicle debuted in 2004, at a time when the SUV segment was at its nascent stage with only the Mitsubishi Pajero in existence. However, the X-Trail wasn’t competitively priced in comparison to the locally assembled SUVs and was snubbed by most buyers in India. The X-Trail was available with a 2.0-litre oil burner with a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox, seated five and was retailing for Rs 22.75 to 26.96 lakh* (Ex-Showroom Delhi). 

The Japanese car maker also bought the 370Z sports coupe in 2010, unfortunately neither the timing nor the pricing was right. The 370Z had a 3.7-litre, V6 petrol engine producing 333bhp, a six-speed gearbox and had a rear-wheel-drive setup. The car retailed for Rs 55.50 – 56.50 lakh (Ex-Showroom Delhi). Nissan did not sell a single unit of the 370Z last year. 

Nissan existing products are the Micra Active, Micra, Sunny, Evalia and Terrano in India, manufactured at the company’s Oragadam plant in Chennai except the Teana.
