The Supreme Court of India has extended the ban on sales and registration of the new diesel cars over 2000cc in the Capital City. The Apex Court however has allowed the diesel taxis to ply till their permits expire.
Despite the vocal support from the Central Government, the ban on registration of diesel vehicles in Delhi has been extended till further notice. The court wants the government to come up with steps to curb pollution before lifting the ban. The ban affects majority of the full-sized SUVs and MUVs like the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Safari and the recently launched Toyota Innova Crysta, apart from many of the luxury cars.
The ban on diesel taxis that have not been moved to CNG, imposed on April 30, has been tweaked. The taxis with All India Travel Permit will be allowed to ply till expiry of their existing permits.
